In life, Joey Drew supervised the Joey Drew Animation Studio with close friend, Henry Stein. Though as Henry was drafted for war, he found a book on sacrificing humans to bring cartoons to life, thus having him start sacrificing his own employees, including Ben Reilly. Eventually, Ben would return from Hell as Bendy to kill him for his initiation job into I.M.P. Since he was killed by Bendy, Animo was sent to Hell. With illusions of grandeur in his head, he worked with cherub Deerie to cause havoc in Heaven and Hell in order to control the two realms and Earth, ruling all of Creation as a result. Thankfully, Bendy managed to permanently destroy him by skewering him with his pen, Ink-Scalibur, and melting him with his own demonic paint thinner, thus securing his title as 'The Ink Demon'.
