MY HERO

I can still remember the time when you said, "You'll always be my princess. And I will be your prince. Your hero, who'll save you in times of darkness."

I was 5 back then. Walang araw na hindi mo ako nilalambing. Walang araw na hindi mo ako kinakausap. You're always making my day special.

"Daddy, promise po ah! You will always be my hero." He smiled at me saying yes.

I was 7 when you surprise me with an android phone. Sobrang saya ko, even though hindi ko naman yun hiningi sa'yo. Then I asked you why.

"Because I know you'll like that. At para na rin hindi ka na mahirapan sa ibang lessons mo na kailangan pang i-search through internet," you answered. Tumango lang ako non kahit unti lang ang naintindihan ko.

Then in my 10th birthday, you surprise me with a dress. I was bit shock nung makita ko kung anong dress yun. It was the dress i've been checking in an online shop.

"Thank you dad!" I said full of joy then hugged you tight.

"So, can I enjoy the moment with my little princess?" you chuckled as you asked. I pouted on you.

"Dad! I'm already 10 na! I'm not a little princess anymore," I said with a little bit disappointment. And that's what makes your hand raise in the air like surrending to a police. It made me laugh then.

In my sweet 16. You rented a hall for the celebration. Kahit na sinabi ko na hindi na kailangan you still did it. Hinayaan ko na lang since, it's your choice. Besides, you said it's your gift for me.

I invited my friends as you wish.

"Ang yaman niyo naman, Al. Imagine? Your dad rented this hall para sa sweet 16 mo? Ugh! I'm jealous girl!" Aya said. I just chuckled with her comment. Hindi ko naman kasi pwedeng sabihin na hindi naman talaga ako sang-ayon sa planong ito. Pagsasabihan lang ako nito panigurado.

I looked around to see the whole hall. It was magnificent. Napakaganda ng lugar. From the interior design, hanggang sa design na ginawa for my birthday celebration.

I excused myself from my friends para hanapin ka. Of course! You're my dad. My hero, remember?

I saw you in the left veranda of the hall. Standing and looks like talking to someone on the phone. I made my way to you.

"Dad!" I called. Then you immediately put your phone down.

"Yes princess? Do you need something?" you calmly asked i just smiled at you then hugged you.

"Thank you, dad." I said.

"Aww. Our sweetheart is really sweet, hmm?" It's mom.

"Of course! She's our princess afterall." you said then the three of us laughed.

That birthday was the most memorable day for me. Yun ata ang pinakamasayang araw ko na nangyari sa buong buhay ko.

I really enjoyed the day until night comes. Many boys danced with me. Then you, as my last dance.

"Thank you dad for this wonderful party," I said as we dance.

You smiled at me. "Sabi ko naman sayo diba? I'll do everything for my princess. Remember? I'm your hero, afterall."

I smiled to what you said. Yeah, you're my hero. You save me all the time.

I smiled to the memories i have shared with you. Nakakainis man pero napangiti talaga ako everytime na maalala ko ang mga sandaling iyon.

Yeah. It's true that you're always saving me. And now, you just saved me from my fantasy. You made me face the cruel reality.

"Bakit kailangan pa itong mangyari? Tell me dad? Why?" I asked as if you're there standing in front of me.

It's been a year since you died. But still, it hurts like hell. I can still feel the pain i felt when you died.

Pinunasan ko ang luha ko then chuckled. "You know what. Nakakainis ka dad," I said then laugh. "Happy father's day, dad. Happy father's day, my hero."
