LOOOOOONG chapter!
Crutchie's POV
I was woken up because of a sudden wave of pain hitting me, and I knew right away that today would be rough. Rather than wake him, I kept still beside Jack, listening to his breathing. Only a few more minutes went by before he stirred, stretching a bit. We looked at one another, and he could tell right away that something was wrong.
"You okay?" He asked, moving my hair from my eyes.
"It's my leg," was all I said, constantly wincing. "Every now and then I'll have what I call episodes, where it hurts super bad and I can't do much all day."
"Is it worse than that one time you felt like shit? When your Dad had kicked you out?" He asked, speaking quietly.
"Mhm, that wasn't an episode," I explained, feeling sick. "I'm really sorry, I won't be much fun."
"You don't have to say sorry at all, okay? You didn't do anything," he smiled, making me do the same. "How do days like these usually go for you?"
"I can't do anything, really." He nodded, continuing to play with my hair.
"Besides the pain, are you feeling alright otherwise? You look pale," I sighed, hating how badly I was causing him to worry.
"It always hurts so bad that I feel sick, so I just have to lay here." He kept smiling kindly, no longer messing with my hair.
"How about this. I'll go make us some smoothies again for breakfast, and get your medicine, and we can just relax." I nodded, making him smile even more. "Okay, I'll be back in a few minutes." He kissed me on the top of the head before he left, causing me to blush.
I pulled the blanket up closer to my chin, bundling up as though I was freezing. As I laid there I only began to feel more sick, but thankfully the pain wasn't increasing. It wasn't long before Jack showed back up, smiling as he set my smoothie on the nightstand, along with two painkillers. I took them quickly, settling right back down after. Jack got back in bed, turning on the TV and starting Steven Universe.
We watched for a while in silence, Jack looking at me every now and then to see how I was doing. Eventually, I started drifting off, making me feel relieved since I'd be able to 'skip' through some of the day. I felt bad about making Jack have to sit in the dark while I slept, though, so before I fell asleep I looked up at him, smiling.
"If I fall asleep, you can keep watching. You don't have to sit here and do nothing," he chuckled a little, causing me to do the same.
"I'm kinda tired too, actually." He turned the TV off and moved closer, putting his arms around me to keep me close. "How badly are you hurting right now?"
"Same as when I woke up, nothing changed. I'm hoping that sleeping might help," he nodded, kissing me on the forehead.
"Wake me up whenever you do, alright?" I nodded, settling down a bit more.
Jack's POV
I ended up waking before Crutchie, and I stayed as still as I could, not wanting to bother him. Even while asleep, I could tell how badly his leg was still hurting, and I wished there was more I could do. Crutchie stayed asleep until eight o'clock, clearly far more exhausted than either of us thought he was. He didn't even smile at me, though, causing me to worry.
"Is it worse?" I asked, and all he did was nod. "You can take more painkillers now, should I get them?" He nodded again, so I got out of bed, smiling. "I'll be right back."
