"We can't just sit here until we land," I whisper. We have been cramped between these pallets for so long that it resulted in my legs going numb. The plane was flying high through the air, and I had to constantly swallow to pop my ears. I knew Bucky was aching, he couldn't move his body to sit, his shoulders, ankles and knees probably burning with pain—screaming to stretch out.
"We can if we have to... And we will." He showed no emotion in his face, no pain. I was growing impatient and he knew it. The plane shook for a moment and my breath hitched in my throat.
The men's voices became louder as they came closer our way. "Did you open that?" One of the men says to the other, a soft accent bouncing off their tongue. They must have spotted the crate I opened, I remember... I didn't shut it. My eyes shoot wide but Bucky kept calm, only a muscle quivering in his jaw.
"No." Said one of the men. I saw the top of their heads as they walked along the opposite wall, a pallet of stacked boxes concealing us and them. "Did you open this one?" The man asked. Bucky mouthed a vulgar word under his breath, they must've noticed the box filled with the cylinders were opened too. Silence fell and only the creaking plane and its pumping engine were audible. Bucky and I shot a look at one another... we were compromised.
Bucky pushed out first, his joints popping and his face wincing. He pulled the pistols that sat by his hips and aimed for the men, one shot fired but no thump of a body echoed through the space. I blinked once and my senses kicked in, the shapes of the men glowed a bright red as they all crouched behind stacked boxes. Bucky crouched on the other side of the pallet, neither Bucky nor the men knew where their opponent was. I blinked again and my vision changed back, only a soft glow of their bodies were visible through the maze of cargo.
I flipped my hood over my head and stood tall between the pallets almost the same height as me. I swiftly moved through the slim walkways left beside the pallets and made my way towards the men. The faint glow of one form moved out from behind the stacked boxes, crouching and scurrying my way. I flicked out the hook from my right gauntlet and swung it out in front of me as I turned a corner, the metal hook digging into the neck of the soldier as the red energy spun and wrapped around his neck. His body flung my way when I tugged my elbow back and plunged my hidden blade into his chest. His blood gurgled and gathered in his throat. I retracted my weapons and let him fall, spitting and convulsing on the floor.
The plane began to angle downwards. I looked to my left. The pallets were held down by straps, shooting an idea through my mind when those straps glowed slightly golden, my gift providing me with the ideas.
I aimed my left arm down at the straps, a red light shot from the top of my cuff and blasted into sparks when it hit my target. At the opposite end, I aimed for the other, the pallet sliding and gaining momentum towards the leftover men.
I felt Bucky's presence next to me as the pallets crashed into one another, the straps—holding the pallet that the men hid behind—snapped with a deafening crack. The men's crushed bones and screams were muffled by the thunder of crashing boxes. Bucky and I simply watched the scene unfold as the pallets slowly slid back to the others, revealing the crushed bodies with their blood smeared over the wall by the door leading into the cockpit. The image stained my mind even when I looked away with cloudy eyes. Bucky's metal hand squeezed my shoulder, telling me it was ok but also thanking me in a way.
"That thing you do... with your eyes?" I turn back to Bucky as he examines me with severe concentration.
"It's a skill... like a family talent." Bucky's body still glowed slightly, blinking a couple of times made it disappear.
We shot our attention to the door when it flung open and pushed one of the crushed men to the side. A tall man stepped out, his shoulders and chest large, almost unnaturally large.
