My eyes locked with Bucky's, the realisation of what he needed to do glinting in a small tear down his cheek. Before I could say a word, he made for the door—too quick steps to be completely human. His supersoldier speed had him sprinting through the doors in a matter of minutes. Gripped in his hand, two small silver bracelets caught my attention.

"What are you doing?" Bruce stops Bucky in his path towards me.

"I'm not risking her death when we can save her by taking her back!" He pushes Bruce aside with ease.

"We're not even sure if that will work." Bruce follows Bucky like a shadow, incapable of getting past the supersoldier on his determined mission.

"It's better than waiting to find out if the diffusions did." He glanced back at Bruce with a fire burning in his eyes.

"I asked him to," I say just above a whisper. "I told him to take me back so my famiglia can wish me farewell."

It was almost like everyone's hearts stopped dead, a sound you wouldn't notice usually until the whole world went silent. Even the wailing from the alarm seemed to vanish as everyone turned to look at me.

"Y/N..." Wanda's voice breaks through the deafness. As her eyes darted over my body, that's when I noticed the tingling, the burning, the tightness. It felt strangely similar to when I was injected with the Sceinyte for the first time, and yet utterly different all the same.

I looked down at my arms and was met with dark purple and black pulsing veins. The shaking that tormented me after left nothing but saliva in my mouth, no words or sounds came from me. A dull buzzing lingered in my ears as hands grabbed at my limbs in an attempt to stop my convulsing.

It hurt. It hurt so bad.

Everything was painful yet numb, cold yet burning hot, bright flashes but dark nothingness.

Something was being sucked from me, something that gave me enough time to breathe—to gather my thoughts, my words, my strength. When I looked back down at my body, red wisps danced around my legs and arms, pulling a dark liquid from the small pores in my skin.

"Do what you need to do! And quick!" Wanda groaned and panted as she tried her hardest to keep upright. Her magic flying from her hands flickered. "I can feel it." She panted and a sweat bead formed on her brow. "Please! Hurry!" Her accent slipped as she screamed in pain, dark veins began to show in her hands, and her fingers began to tremble.

She was in pain, pain from trying to save me. But whatever she was doing worked. Bucky slapped the silver band over my palm just in time as Wanda collapsed to the floor, heaving up dark bile, and my head cracked back against the cushioned chair beneath me. I writhed as the Sceinyte pummeled through my body quicker than before. Back arching, fingers and toes curling.

I began to fall.

Falling through rainbows and stars, water and earth.

Time.

Time had frozen, my body had eased its cramping. And I felt peace. Was this the end? Was I dead?

A strong hand gripped my wrist and my bones ached. My head spun and I lurched forward, bones groaning under my skin. I spun. Whirling into strong arms as I hit the floor.

The convulsing ceased, the cramping numbed, and shapes and colours painted my vision once more. And I was there.

I was home.

And yet so far from home.

I looked up into crystal blue eyes. The only comfort I needed to know that we had made it, that I was going to be safe.
