"Wake up sleepy heads!" I jump awake at the sound of Ezio's voice and the slam of an open door. "I made breakfast." I look through my squinted eyes to see his blurry grin grow wider as he stood with his arms crossed over his chest in the doorway."Strange, I don't smell smoke." I groggily joke, rolling onto my stomach I sat up onto my knees. Rubbing my eyes from sleep I looked around, Bucky slowly got off the couch and stretched his neck. My back shot pains all the way up to the tip of my spine. The ground was not my favourite place to sleep, but I wanted to be nice and let Bucky take the couch.
"Molto divertente. (Very funny.)" Ezio scoffs and I yawn before my open mouth becomes a cheeky smile. Ezio was not the best cook, I congratulate him for trying his best though. The smell of freshly cooked bread filled my nose as I walked into the main room of Leonardo's workshop. His small, wooden work table wasn't filled with stacks of sketches or silly little contraptions like usual. It was completely empty with only four plates and a large steaming roll in the middle.
"I've never seen this table so clean." I chuckle and rest one arm on Leonardo's shoulder. "L'hai aiutato? (Did you help him?)" I smirk and squint my eyes into narrow slits at his stiff face.
"Solo con il pane. (Only with the bread.)" He purses his lips in a thin line almost creating dimples in his cheeks.
I smile and walk towards the table. The smell only got stronger, reminding me of home. My family was wealthy, and I got to enjoy many things other children couldn't. I had clean water and clean clothes, I had the opportunity to learn unlike other kids... unlike other girls. Even now—after the death of my brothers and father I still have that, but I don't take it for granted as much as I used to.
"Godere! (Enjoy!)" Ezio smiles as he slides his chair closer to the table. I look to Bucky who had recovered from only a few hours of sleep rather quickly. He returns me a look and smiles softly before taking a piece of cut bread with pale steam emitting off of its white insides. I join in and take a plate full of bread.
"Why did you make this, fratello? (brother?)" I ask as I take a bite out of the soft bread.
"I wanted to do something nice before you left. You've already been here more than two days," he looks at Bucky who sat next to me, "I had a feeling that you would be leaving today." His smile drops into a frown and my eyebrows droop. It was time that we left, but I don't want to say goodbye just yet. I'll be so out of my comfort zone and I won't have Ezio to help me out of it.
"It'll feel like she never left. Trust me." Bucky smiles at my brother and he returns the gesture.
"Let's hope so." Ezio nods his head and I give him a quick smile before dropping my gaze to my plate. It might feel like I never left to him, but it's going to feel different for me. I have no idea how long I'm going to be away and I sure don't want to think about it.
I helped Leonardo clean up as Ezio and Bucky took a stroll outside. I knew he was probably threatening him, but he wouldn't dare lay a finger on Bucky... at least not yet. Being alone with Leonardo let me catch up with him a bit. He was my brother's best friend, we were also close friends but that has changed since I don't spend much time around him anymore. On the trip to Venezia, the three of us all got to catch up with everything that happened to us on the way to Forli. Leonardo tried to convince Ezio that Caterina—the woman who helped him get on the boat without a ticket—was hands-off, but of course, he never listens.
"Non posso credere che i viaggi nel tempo siano reali! (I can't believe time travel is real!)" Leonardo grins wide with a soft laugh topping his excitement.
"E ' davvero straordinario. (It is really extraordinary.)" I nod my head and look up at him. He was almost the same hight as my brother, but maybe just a bit shorter that you wouldn't notice unless you paid close attention.
