"Go." I kiss Bucky's lips and bring his hand towards me, the silver band around his palm. "I can still feel the Sceinyte. It must be stuck to us." Every movement I made caused the fabric on my skin to burn and itch.

He reached for my face, a single tear falling from his eye and settling on his shirt. Our lips connected for a final goodbye. Or see you later—someday.

"I love you." He breathed.

"Ti amerò, anche dopo il mio ultimo respiro.(I will love you, even after my last breath.)"

A light flashed, and my hands slackened. He was gone. I had sent him back by pressing the band around his palm. I could still feel the line of metal against my fingertips, but the warmth that surrounded it from the rest of his hand in mine... was gone.

My chest heaved, and I pushed myself to my hands and knees. I wasn't strong enough to stand. "Ezio!" I shouted out, and as I tried to crawl two feet in front of me, my brother barged through the door, wide-eyed.

"Y/N?" He crouched next to me and held me under my arms.

"Portami in acqua. (Take me to the water.)" There was a long scratch deep in my throat as I spoke.

Without hesitation, Ezio yanked me off the ground as if I weighed nothing more than a bag of flour. When we reached the door, the Italian sun beat down on my face, and I raised my hand to keep it from blinding me. Opening my eyes through narrow slits, I noticed the glittering water that ran through Venezia ahead of us, lapping against the stone steps that were slowly turning green from algae.

He carefully slid me onto the steps, and I sank into the cool water where the last step had ended. Every burning and itching sensation on my body subsided, and my clothes shrank and clung to my skin, peeling off as the light ripples in the water pushed into and then away from me.

"I need you to tell me everything that happened." I glanced at my brother, his face stone hard, but his eyes revealed his true feelings of dread.

"There's so much." I begin to say as I tread water.

"We have the time." He sits on the edge of the step, resting his elbows on the top of his knees while keeping deep eye contact with me.

So I told him. I told him about the Avengers, what they've done to help the world... the universe. Assassins posing as the Brotherhood. The Sceinyte. How I became the way I am from that first mission. The connection between Bucky and me. Everything I knew about Ivo. What I didn't tell him was that I would die soon. His little sister... He was about to lose another family member. He would be left with only our mother and Claudia. I'd have to say my goodbyes to them too, without raising suspicions.

I was stuck here now; I was going to die here.

This is my destiny. I am built to fight, to kill, and to die.

And I will do it again and again until my soul dies and I am nothing more than a whisper on a gentle, cool breeze.

"You are safe now and that is all that matters. What happened there is no longer your concern. You are part of the Brotherhood. You are an Auditore. You will continue to fight for the freedom of your people, and what is left of your family." His fists balled and I didn't dare look away from him. "The life of an assassin is pain, you suffer it, you inflict it-"

"'You watch it happen in the hope that you can make it disappear in time.' I know fratello (brother)." I huff and swim up to the edge of the step. I was able to lift myself and sit beside Ezio after building up enough strength. "I loved him." I choked out.

"I know. It's not easy to say goodbye knowing it could be your last." We stared out across the water at the large ships floating by in the distance.

"I need to train." I was weak; I was not fit to be in my old role as an assassin.
