The next morning came faster than expected, it felt as if I got a total of 5 minutes of sleep but in reality I ended up getting 5 hours. Newt softly shook me awake when light began peeking through the vines, which meant the doors would be opening soon. My plan was to quickly head back to the glade, let everyone know I was alive, grab some supplies, and set out to look for Cora. If anything were to happen to her it would be on me and I couldn't live with the fact she was no longer here so as long as there was some hope she was alive I wouldn't stop until I found her.

"We should get going." I suggest whilst rubbing my eyes to wake myself up faster. Newt looked tired and I instantly regretted not offering to switch off with him so he could sleep. The moment I crawled out of the 'cave' and away from Newt and immediately missed his warmth and the way his body felt pressed against mine. In a weird way it felt like home even if we were in a maze surrounded by monsters and out here against our will. Newt came out seconds after me and began walking in the direction of the doors. I'm not exactly sure how he knew his way around the maze but he did so I thought it would hurt to ask.

"I used to be a runner." He vaguely replies, not giving me any other information to work with. I guess I didn't pick up the vibe that the explanation behind him letting go of his running career was sensitive because when I went to ask what happened he came to a halt and glanced at me for a bit, debating if he should tell me or not before he continued walking.

"I was here before a lot of people, which means I've also watched a lot of people die. There came a point where I was fed up with seeing all my friends die so I thought it was my turn. I was disgusted with everything around me, the maze, the deaths, the little chance of escape, the people who put us here, everything and I just couldn't take it anymore. So one night I threw myself off a maze wall but as you can see I didn't succeed in the goal I was trying to complete. That's why I have a slight limp because the bone never healed correctly." He explains and with each word my heart hurts more and more for him. I couldn't envision the pain he was feeling I wanted nothing more than to go back in time and assure him everything would turn out fine. Most of the time I'm not the best with emotional stuff but my instincts kicked in and my body flung forward to engorge him into an embrace. He awkwardly returned it, due to not expecting nor being ready for a hug at that exact moment.

"It was a long time ago, I'm okay now." He says as we pull anyway from each other. I didn't want to let him go just yet I my hand stayed tightened intertwined with his.

"I'm serious, if you need anyone to talk to about legitimately anything I will always be here for you no matter what happens." I utter, hoping I could help him if he needed it. In reply I get a thankful smile before he turns back around and continues on his trek, sending a gentle squeeze to my hands as he does so. The journey back to the glade didn't take long, we made it there under 10 minutes. Just as we were about to enter the open doors leading to the glade the sound of a girls laughter echoed through the maze, bouncing off from wall to wall. Without thinking twice I dash towards it, recognizing it to belong to my sister. Newt of course yelled for me to slow down but I didn't listen, instead I pushed myself to go faster.

Eventually after 2-3 turns I find my sister accompanied by Thomas, both of whom appear to be totally fine and unharmed. When Cora takes notice of my presence she didn't waste anytime in running over and hugging me as if her life depended on it. Behind us I could hear Newt approaching clearly out of breathe from trying to keep up with me. Once we broke apart the hug I move over to Thomas squeezing onto him also, I hadn't fully realized how worried I was about him too until he was in my arms once again. A small scoff came from Newt but he quickly covered it up with a cough, hoping no one noticed. I don't think anyone did expect for myself but decided to leave it be for now.

"Oh, oh, Y/n." Cora excitedly says trying to catch my attention, practically bouncing up and down. I break apart from Thomas and look at her, signifying she has my full attention and to continue with what she was saying.
