We all decided to say here for the night, we'd move first thing tomorrow when there was some light guiding our way.
"Everyone meet here the seconds the sun rises, no later." Thomas instructs sending everyone their separate ways.
"Cora, where are you going?" I question as I see her walking away, did she really think I was going to let her go in her own.
"I can take care of myself." She says as she keeps trudging away.
"No you can't, now get your stuff and follow us." She rolled her eyes, the teenager attitude was setting in and it made me want to throw her through a window.
"This isn't fair." She mumbles as we began our way to one of the more nicer parts of this place. I was definitely not going to sleep on a couch I had just had sex on.
"Life isn't fair, deal with it." I scoff, out of all people she should have understood that. She uttered something under her breathe that was unclear to me but it was probably better that I didn't hear her. It was clear when we made it to our destination because everything around us was organized instead of a piled mess like everywhere else. It looked like a little home, someone took their time to decorate it but unfortunately for them it appeared they didn't get to enjoy it.
"I'm going to go grab my stuff, do you want me to grab yours?" I could have just gotten it tomorrow but then I wouldn't have my sleeping bag for tonight and I didn't really want to sleep on the hard floor.
"Uh, ya, just grab my backpack I was in the middle of filling. I'll find more stuff to pack from here."
"Keep an eye on her." I instruct, her pissed off manner made her unpredictable and the last thing I needed was to be looking for a disobedient child. It took little to no time finding Thomas's and I's bags, as I slung his bag over my shoulder the place suddenly lights up. All lamps, lights, anything that was plugged into the wall turned on. For a moment I thought I must of hit something but took a look at my surrounds and dismissed the thought. Somehow this place was more eerie lit up, I could fully see how these peoples lives were moved here only for them to abandon it all. Then there was the thing I should have been thinking about all night but it just hit me then, where did they all go?
A horrifying scream bounced off each and every wall. I rush back to Cora and Thomas, the weight of all the bags slowing me down but eventually I find my way back to them. They must of heard it too because the look on their faces held just as much confusion as mine did. Just as I was about to ask if they saw anything Minho bursts through a pair of doors, he was running from something but what?
"Run!" Minho screams at us but we don't listen until we see what's following close behind him. They were infected with the flare but they could have passed as real life zombies, I toss Thomas his bag whilst throwing my sleeping bag at my sister. She begins to complain but quickly shuts up when she sees the gun in my hand, realizing that I needed at least one free hand to be able to use it. We chase after Minho, catching up with him around the same time everyone else did. They must of heard his screaming or even saw him from far away. We weaved around everything that got in our way, not daring to slow down for a second know what would be waiting for us if we did. Somehow we ended up outside, crouching inside some wreckage and listening to the angry screeches of the sick. Cora was evidently exhausted, nearly fall asleep whilst sitting up. I gently remove the sleeping bag from her arms and sprawl it out along the ground.
"Sweetie, lay down right here." I swiftly instruct, her eyes barely opening to see where I was talking about. She doesn't hesitate in passing out the second her body relaxes, using my lap as a pillow I brushed through her hair with my fingers. It was times like these I was grateful to have a sister, having to practically raise her made our bond stronger than imaginable. She was the only one I didn't mind caring after, it was somewhat rewarding at times like this. Even when she was being a total asshat I still was proud of who she was becoming, I saw maybe to much of me in her and it terrified me at times. Everyone eventually went to sleep whereas I stayed awake, watching the horizon turn from black to orange, and orange to blue. They've slept in long enough.
