New Guy

I wake up with a start and look around, my vision still kind of hazy. Did... Did I fall asleep? In class?

A bell rings and makes me jump and I hear a girly giggle.

"Jeez Evelyn. You were out. I tried to wake you, but you just looked so cute sleeping." Nari gives me a sheepish smile.

"Mmmm..." I stand up and grab my bag as the second bell rings.

"See ya, boo!" Nari winks and blows me a kiss as she leaves the class.

After she makes a turn and is out of view, I leave too, heading for 3rd period. My mind is still all sluggish from falling asleep and I just snake my way through the hall but before I make the first turn, someone bumps into my back, and normally this wouldn't happen, but I fall forward and barely catch myself with one arm.

"My bad." Some new guy reaches his hand out toward me.

"No shit..." I mumble but I don't grab his hand, just stare at him.

He's tall, I think around six feet. His hair's black, like really black and his eyes are this, like, glowing blue. He's wearing a plain black shirt and matching black pants but the black isn't what stands out. It's all those scars. His bottom jaw to his ears is just this purple burnt color and it goes down his neck, disappearing beneath his shirt. Its also under his eyes. What happened?

"Oh don't worry about it Dabi, Evelyn's fine. She falls all the time." Mallory, the schools popular bitch, walks up from behind the guy and wraps and arm around his waist.

I get up smiling at her, just because it bothers her. "Well hi Mallory. Already claiming territory I see," I turn to look at the guy, "just make sure she doesn't piss on you, k? Well this has been fun but I've got a class to get to." I give her another smile and star walking away.

"Well at least I'd have a chance with someone like him!" I can practically hear the hair flip in the sentence.

"Not my type, Mall." I wiggle my fingers in a wave and turn the corner but right as I do something makes me hesitate. A warm feeling shoots down my spine and my neck prickles, the kind of feeling you get when someone's watching you, but not a Mallory-watching-you-walk-away- kind of feeling. A new-guy's-got-his-eye-on-you feeling. I shiver and keep walking.
