The Fight

"Evelyn!" Dabi yells, reaching for my hand.

But before I can grab his, someone yaks me by hair, sending me flying through the air.

I hit the ground hard, rolling until I hit a wall. I gasp as all the air escapes my lungs. When I look up, someone's coming at me. I struggle into a sitting position, throwing white fire at them.

They scream just as Dabi crosses his arms, hands out and a crazy look in his eyes, and blue fire engulfs the person's back.

Shit, shit, shit. I stand up, throwing my hand out, drowning out Dabi's fire. When the guy falls to the ground, my fire dies away and Dabi stands, staring at me.

"I thought you couldn't fight." He walks towards me, angry.

I back up, not sure why I'm all of a sudden scared. "I-I..." I stutter and trip over a body.

He's there though, grabbing my arms and hauling me to my feet. "You lied to me."

"But-"

He pulls me against him and I hear the sound of fire rushing past my ear. Over his shoulder I can see everyone else fighting. Someone looks at us, openly staring. And then they throw something and just before it stabs into Dabi's back, I kick his feet from under him. We go sprawling to the ground and I land on top of him.

"What the hell are you doing?!"

I roll off his body, copying his move back in Kyushu, where he circled us in fire.

He sits up, watching me.

"I never lied to you, not really. I just let you assume I couldn't fight." I walk to him, standing inches from his body.

He stares, still angry.

I think about reaching out to touch him, but I don't. "Don't be mad at me, please."

He scoffs. "Don't be mad at the girl who lied to me. You know, Evelyn, it really fucking hurts when someone you love lies to you." He sticks his hand out, diminishing my fire. "If you can really fight, do it." He walks away from me, back into the fight.

All I can do is watch. I feel a tear run down my cheek and I hastily wipe it away. Now is not the time to cry over him. I turn, and ram right into someone.

They turn and grab me, throwing as if I weigh nothing. I flip in the air, landing on my feet. He runs at me, something in his hand, and swings it. I duck and spin, kicking out at his feet. He falls, landing on me. I grunt in pain as he brings the thing down on my leg. I grab his face, burning it with my cold fire. He screams and staggers away when I push him.

I get up quickly, trying to find Dabi. I see him, standing with fire coming from his hand. Someone lands in front of him, ice shooting up where he was standing. Dabi goes flying back and I have to suppress a cry. I head for him.

He sticks his arms up and brings them down, blue fire pouring out in front of him. I pause. He doesn't need me...

A splitting pain blossoms behind my neck, blood dripping into the top of my dress. I'm pulled back by a hand and fall onto the ground. I look up.

A guy reaches his hand back and brings it down.

I roll over and run. I can hear him following me. I plant my foot on a wall, flipping into the air and over the guy. I land behind him. He turns, shocked. I reach my hand out but I don't get far before I fall again. My head slams into the ground and I cry out, tears rushing into my eyes. I throw my hand into an arc, sending flames wherever.

I hear screams and stumble up. The guy who chased me falls back, and then gets up. It looks as if his entire body is made of glass. My fire can't do anything to that, but maybe if I can...

He lunges, grabbing me by my shoulders and swinging me around. I jump up, wrapping my legs around his body, and hold onto his neck. I bring my elbow up, smashing it into his face. A long crack spreads from his nose to his neck. It spiderwebs out, and he stumbles back, holding his face.

I jump off him just as he shatters into a million pieces.
