Dabi pulls me into his lap. We're at some giant table thing. Apparently Hawks is supposed to be here.
"Can't we go back to bed?" I whisper.
He chuckles quietly so no one notices. "No. We have to be here."
"I don't." I pout and lean on him.
He wraps his arms around me tightly. "I want you here."
I almost say something but Hawks walks in. I still don't care about him. I turn my head and plant soft kisses on Dabi's cheek. It almost works but he keeps his eyes on Hawks. So I wrap an arm around his neck, trying to get him to pay attention to me. He doesn't. He puts his hands on the table, listening to Hawks. So I guess I should pay attention, huh?
"In any case, I'm working hard at propagating the Liberation Ideology." Hawks smiles a little, all proud of himself.
Twice likes it. "Hey, you're really goin' all out for us Hawks! You're a great guy! (you're a scumbag). I would love to have you as a subordinate."
Hawks puts his hands up, his eyes on Dabi. "And by the way, the public safety commission still believes that the league's numbers are small and they're currently in hiding. They aren't aware of the Liberation Army's existence. They're currently..."
He keeps talking but I don't care to listen. Every now and then his eyes will drift to me. At first I think it's because I'm sitting in Dabi's lap. But there's more to that look. It's like a cross between sympathy and recognition. Does he remember me from the news? He can't. That was forever ago and no one remembers me. No one except Dabi.
"Looks like he hasn't gotten much stronger." Dabi leans forward, wrapping his arms around my waist. He's talking to Hawks.
"Well, they are still students after all." Hawks smiles again.
Re-Destro speaks. "Excellent work, Hawks! You're dismissed."
"What now? We just hang around?"
Dabi lets go of my hand, opening a door for me. "We can go lay back down if you really want."
"Oh so now we can go back to sleep?" I roll my eyes and walk away from him.
He follows after me, confused. "Are you upset?"
"Hawks kept looking at you..."
"Aww so someone's a little jealous?"He wraps his arms around me.
I pull away. "I'm not jealous. I just didn't like it."
He mutters into my neck. "Well, Ev, I love you. And only you." He slides his hands down to my waist, pulling me back against him.
I sigh. "I really hope so, because without you, I'm nothing..."
He scoffs. "You're still you. You just wouldn't know it."
I pull away again, running down the halls.
He calls after me. "Really? You're gonna make me chase you?"
I smile. "If you want it, come and get it." I disappear behind a wall.
He finds me and throws up fire to cut me off. But I use my fire to cancel it and I keep running. I round another corner and fall on my ass. Dabi nearly trips over me when he catches up. I'm laughing so hard I almost don't hear him.
"What just happened?"
"I don't even...know." I keep laughing, hugging myself.
He picks me up and sets me back on my feet. I look at him, still giggling but calming down. He smiles and gently kisses me, pulling my body into his. I smile more, letting him kiss me but I can't make my lips cooperate. I'm just smiling too hard. He reaches behind him, opening our door. Once we're inside and the door shuts, he grabs me, carrying me onto his bed. He throws me down and I laugh.
"I like your idea of laying back down."
He smirks. "I knew you would."
