"woohoo, quadruple date!!" yunho cheered.

at this moment, seven out of eight of the boys were at their designated spot at han river.

the only person missing was...

"where is he? he's late!!" hongjoong grumbled. "i specifically told you guys to not be late."

"eh, you know him, he doesn't listen to you. if anything, he'll come a bit later." seonghwa reassured.

"ugh, that woo. hopefully he won't back out."

"hmm... i called him this morning. he didn't say anything about coming late, much less not showing up, so i don't think he'll back out." san gave the parents a smile.

"we'll have to wait to find out then..." seonghwa sighed.

a few moments later, san felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.

he took it out and checked the screen.

[ incoming call : unknown number ]

"um, someone's calling me, but i don't know who it is..." san muttered.

"answer it. you'll never know who is it unless you do." hongjoong told him.

"okay then."

accept decline

"hello?"

"hello. is this choi san?"

"y-yes, who is this?"

"this is wooyoung's mother. how are you san?"

"i'm good, thank you. um, would you mind me asking where wooyoung is? we were supposed to be going on a date today..."

"... that's the reason i called you. wooyoung, well... he can't come."

"what, why? what happened?"

"... san. please don't get too upset."

"p-please tell me what's wrong!!"

"he... got into an accident on the way there. i told him i could've dropped him instead of walking, but he refused. then a few minutes later, i got a call that he..." wooyoung's mother's voice faltered, indicating that she didn't need to say any more.

san dropped his phone in shock.

"s-san... you good?" seonghwa questioned.

san didn't answer, he just had an emotionless expression on his face.

seonghwa kneeled down to him, "sannie, what happened bub?"

san couldn't take the pain any longer.

his unreadable expression quickly broke, and san started to break down.
