32. Baby

"Why are you still holding that? I've peed on that stick!" Alice said as she snatched the pregnancy test from Max. 

Luckily no one else had heard the commotion in the kitchen. Cisca Norris was still speechless. They had joked about grandchildren before, but surely she wasn't expecting to have two sons about to become dads. 

"Does Lando know?" 

"No! I just found out this afternoon... Please let me be the one giving him the news."

His mother and Max agreed not to say anything, but Cisca couldn't help but touch Alice's stomach. For the first time that day, Alice had an epiphany. She had a tiny person growing inside her.

She returned to the table with dessert and sat across Lando, as Max had already taken her spot next to him. She observed him as he laughed at a dad joke Adam had pulled. She loved his immature sense of humour which was very similar to hers. She loved his big smile and how kind he was. How could have she fallen in love head over heels in such a short amount of time? Maybe because they spent so much time together, at work and at home, it seemed like she knew him for years already. Alice couldn't help but wonder what his reaction would be? He was still very young and she didn't want to prevent him from living his best life. Likewise, she never expected that they would have so little time together before adding a member to the family. 

She had zoomed out for a while as next thing she felt Lando standing behind her with his hands on her shoulders. 

"Is everything okay with your wound?" He asked her.

"With my wound? What do you mean?" Alice was confused by his question. Lando pulled the chair next to her and sat down.

"You don't want wine and I saw my mum touching your stomach before..." 

"Err..." Since when was Lando Norris oriented to detail? "No, my wound is fine. It was something else." 

"Like what?" He kept trying to understand. She wasn't comfortable to tell him in front of everyone. Lando checked her face for clues. He suddenly gasped. "IS IT WHAT I'M THINKING?" 

She placed her hand on his knee to calm him down while she simply nodded with her head, confirming. They held each other's gaze for a few seconds. He smiled and kissed her forehead before getting up. That had to be a good sign.

Once everyone had left, Alice ran to the bathroom with another pregnancy test. She wanted to make sure it wasn't a mistake. Lando followed her in and locked the door behind them. 

"Our intimacy has changed considerably since the morning. It just went from sexy love-making to watching me pee..." 

"If it envolves watching you naked, I'm down to anything." He said with a boyish grin. 

They sat down by the sink while waiting for the results. Alice placed the test on the floor next to her.

"Are you scared?" She asked him.

"A little bit, not going to lie. I thought you were on birth control?"

"I am... I've messed up a couple of days. By my calculations, I think I got pregnant on the very first time we had sex."

"Yeah proud of my swimmers!" 

They both laughed. How could they ever raise a child if they found a remark like that hilarious?
