34. Stupid Deep

Alice thanked Charles before ending the call. She sighed before facing Lando. He was able to go through an earthquake without waking up, but the one day she needed him to sleep in, he had to be wide awake. 

"So? Care to explain what are you doing?" Lando sat next to her with a stern expression. Alice was already stressed out by what Charles had disclosed. 

"What do you mean? Am I not allowed to talk to Charles ever?" 

"Seriously Alice? I can only imagine how you would react if you woke up and I was FaceTiming Alexandra." 

Lando was right. Alice would react badly. She would probably break some stuff and then find herself another man on the very same day. 

"Yes, babe, you're right. I don't want to argue. I want you to trust me."

"I don't know if I can..."

"Really? Do you recall that you were hooking up with Alexandra when you first got on with me?!"

"It just seems that you're not over him."

"Over him? I was never in love with him. I've pretty much used Charles to get over you!" Alice argued. 

"This just feels dodgy, I'm sorry." Lando seemed disappointed by her, causing her discomfort. She didn't want to lose him for something so silly. Alice also didn't want to burden him with her problems and it was hard to find the balance. He was moody ever since the attack and she had to be patient; a quality she seemed to be acquiring lately. 

Alice placed her phone on the coffee table and moved closer to Lando. She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him softly while stroking a strand of his curly hair growing out of control. 

"I love you and I will never betray you." She leaned her head against his and held his face between her hands. Lando softened as he felt Alice's touch. 

She decided to come clean and tell everything she had been hiding from her boyfriend, including the incident with Leo. Lando, once again, was in disbelief. It baffled him how Alice had the need to hide such information from him. 

"Alice Castro, if you hide stuff from me ever again... I don't even know what I'm gonna do with you."

"I have an idea..." Alice said as she climbed on his lap. It definitely was pregnancy hormones. 

"What if Max wakes up?" Lando asked.

"Ah, fuck him."

"Babe, you're so rude... but it's incredibly sexy."

Leo didn't turn up to work, for the Silverstone race, which was a relief for Alice. She was hoping she would never have to see him again. She had already told McLaren what happened the previous Sunday. Alice wondered if her colleague was just trying to sound tough when he said those things about Lando or if he really had something to do with the mugging. 

Danny walked into the paddock after free practice where Alice was already waiting for him.

"So I guess I'm out of a PR again. Damn, this really isn't my season." He said while scratching his head. 

"Aww, if you'll take me back, I'll be with you this weekend." Alice said as she gently touched his arm. 

"What about Lando?" 

"Charlotte is back to her PR days as well. It's actually good to stay away from him for a little while. I mean we are always together..."
