KAY'S P.O.V.
I lean backwards in my chair, staring at the clock on the wall. Just a bit longer before freedom is mine. I watch carefully as my time left in this place of misery slowly decreases, until only a minute is left.
Come on, come on...
Tick-tock, tick-tock... The sound of the clock fills my ears as it reaches the last few seconds.
A bell sounds, signalling the end of this torture.
School is finally over for the term! And none too soon, I was going to punch someone if I had to listen to one more stupid question from the many morons that are my fellow prisoners.
I sigh in relief and happiness as I grab my bag, carelessly sweeping my stuff inside of it, before shouldering it and walking towards the door. While I do this, the teacher, Ms Moondust, stands up and waves her hands at all of us.
"FINALLY! OUTTA MY CLASSROOM, ALL OF YOU! I'M NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE UNTIL YOU'RE ALL GONE AND TO BE HONEST I JUST WANT TO GO HOME AND SLEEP. NOW SHOO!" She yells. There's a reason why she's my favourite teacher. It's because she seems to dislike this accursed place just as much as me. The rest of the people in the room stand up and rush out, since last time some of us stayed past the bell, she collapsed onto her knees and started screeching dramatically.
I reach the exit from the room first, but before I can leave, a blur of blue and grey barrels past me, shrieking. It jumps into Ms Moondust's arms, clinging to her.
"BRIIIIII! HELPIT'SGONNAGETME!"
"Austin, why."
I turn towards my teacher, who now has the Principal clinging to her in a comical way. He's got his arms and legs wrapped around Ms Moondust's torso, and is huddled against her, making an odd high-pitched squeaking noise. This scene is made even more entertaining by the fact that she's trying - and failing - to hold him up, and is on the verge of falling over since he's taller than her. By a lot. My friend Nick raises his hand, and asks,
"Mr panda? Are you okay?"
The head of the school responds only with higher pitched, louder screeching. I look a bit closer, and realize that he's got small tears in the corners of his eyes, only making it look more like some scene out of a cartoon. I chuckle slightly as Ms Moondust sighs.
"Let me guess, there's a spider in your office?" He nods violently, panda hat shaking, causing my teacher to lose her footing and fall over.
"AUSTIN-" I take this as my cue to leave, the last things I hear from the room being,
"But it's just sitting there in the corner! MENACINGLY!" and,
"I swear, if it's just another tiny one, you are dead to me."
I shake my head in amusement. Sometimes the teachers here act more like kids than the students.
The halls are filled with people, almost all of them looking cheerful with the exception of a few who seem to be sad about... something, I dunno. As I reach the gate, I hear footsteps heading rapidly towards me. I turn around and am greeted with the unfortunate sight of Nick, mid-launch, about to tackle me. It's too late to dodge, so I take it head-on.
I'm pushed back a bit on impact, but soon recover since Nick is shorter than me. He's not short overall, mind you. I'm just unnaturally tall for my age.
"Hi Kaykrae!" He says as he lands on the concrete, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet.
"Hey. What'd I say about tackling?" I respond, used to the nickname by now. I proceed to place my hands on my hips, raising both my eyebrows.
