They meet up with Coach Bombay and Don Tibbles. "That's Luis Mendoza. He's from our Miami club. A real speedster. Incredible Skater. I clocked him at 1.9 seconds, blue line to blue line." Don explains. "Damn, he's fast" Peyton says to her brother. "Come on Pey, I bet you could beat him in a race". The watch as Luis skates from blue line to blue line. "I don't know Peyton, I think your spot as being the fastest one on the team just got replaced." Averman explains. "Shut it Averman" Adam defends. "Good lookin' skater" Connie says. "Very good lookin' skater, what do you think, Guy?" Averman says sarcastically. "Shut up, Averman" Guy says as he pushes Averman down. "He has one minor problem." Don explains. They watch as Luis crashes into the boards. "He has trouble stopping" Don says. "Yeah, I'd say so" Goldberg says causing everyone to laugh. The other recruits go over to help Luis up. "I almost had it that time" Luis says. To be honest, he wasn't even close to stopping. Jesse, Goldberg, and Fulton all look at each other and chuckle.
"Yee Haw, How's everyone? Y'all ready to play some puck?" A boy says. "Hey look, it's hop along Gretzky" Jesse exclaims causing everyone to laugh. The boy starts to juggle the puck on his stick. "That's Dwayne Robertson, from Austin, he's the best puck handler i've ever seen" Don explains. "You mean for his age" Coach Bombay asks. "No, I don't". "Hey this is easier than roping hogs" Dwayne says excitedly. Peyton, Charlie, and Adam looked at Dwayne with approval faces. "Wow" Coach Bombay says.
"There's Julie "The Cat" Gaffney" Don explains. "She won the state champs for Maine, three years in a row". "Well we have a goalie, Goldberg" Coach Bombay says while looking over at Goldberg who is standing by the net. "All right, bring em on, man I'm ready, come on show me what you got, I'm the man, I'm the man" Goldberg exclaims while falling into a split. "Watch this" Don says while chuckling. Connie shoots pucks at Julie, she blocks almost every single one of them.
"Isn't that the kid from the Olympics, the figure skater?" Coach Bombay asks. "Yep, Ken Wu, what can I say, I convinced him that hockey had more a future, we put a stick in his hands, nobody has been able to touch him" Don explains.
"Showtime" They all hear someone say. They look over and seen a guy bigger than Fulton skating onto the ice. "That guys a teenager?" Gordon asks. "Don't you know everything's on fire" He skates by pushing down Peyton and Charlie while singing. "Uh yeah, Hormones" Don says. Adam helps Peyton back up and they both look at the goon. "He's a goon" Charlie says. "Yeah, tell me about it" Peyton says back. "That guy is a goon" Gordon says to Don. "Come on, Texas, Sing it with me" He says to Dwayne who is obviously horrified. He pushes down Jesse and tosses his stick to Julie. "Here you go sweetie". "My kids don't play that kind of hockey" Coach Bombay explains. "I believe they are called enforcers Gordon, and when you play Iceland, your gonna need him" Don says. Portman goes over to Ken Wu and sets him on top of the net. "Who does this guy think he is" Fulton questions. "All right that's it" Goldberg says while skating over by Fulton. Everyone was fighting, the newbies were on one side and the Ducks were on the other. Peyton stood by Adam and Charlie and bickered at Luis. Peyton hadn't really liked Luis and she hadn't even met him, all she knew was that he was faster than her and she didn't like that. She was always the fastest and for someone to be taking her spot as the fastest was upsetting to her. They bickered until Coach Bombay stopped them. He blows the whistle. "Everybody freeze!" He yells. They all look over at their coach.
"Now we didn't come here to fight! We came here to play Hockey! We're Team U.S.A you represent your country!" Coach says. "That's right" Don agrees. "Now I want you-"Coach begins to say before he gets cut-off. "To be all that you can be, right? You gotta raise yourself up, guys! Ya gotta-" Don says before Coach gives him the look for him to shut up. They all laugh. "All right, now. Let's start with the scrimmage." Coach Bombay says. "Great, scrimmage" Don says as he blows the whistle. "You heard your coach! Now-"Don begins to say before Bombay gives him the look again. "Hey, you don't need me here. I've got an appointment anyway. I've got to see Miss Mackay, she's the team tutor" Don says as he starts to walk off. "Don?" Bombay says while holding out his hand. "Come on" Don takes off his whistle and puts it in Coach Bombay's hands. "You'll get it back at the end of the school term" He explains. They all laugh once again. "All right, Ducks! Show em what you got. Let's Scrimmage" Coach Bombay says.
"Great day for hockey ain't it" Dwayne says to Jesse while they take the face off. "Sure is, Cowboy" Jesse says. Dwayne pushes the puck through Jesse's legs causing him to fall over. "Yee-Haw" Dwayne exclaims. Luis starts to skate towards Goldberg. "Hey man, take it easy! Slow Down!" Goldberg says while Luis is coming right at him. "Goldberg, look out!" Coach Bombay says. Luis skates right into Goldberg, causing them both to fall down. "Thanks for breaking my fall" Luis says. "Anytime" Goldberg replies. Peyton can't help but roll her eyes.
Adam skates down the ice as Dean flips him over. Jesse gets the puck and shoots. Julie saves it. "Damn, these recruits are good" Peyton says to Charlie. "Yea" He replies.
"Have you guys been training in the off-season?" Coach asks Averman. "You know, I knew we forgot something" He replies.
Adam has the puck again. He skates down the ice. He goes in the right side and shoots, he scores. "Good shot Adam! Way to show em!" Coach Bombay exclaims. "Nice shot Banksie" Peyton says to Adam. "Thanks Pey" He replies.
Fulton skates along the wall as Dean checks him into the boards. "How do you feel, tough guy?" Dean explains. Guy and Averman go over to Portman and try to check him. Dean pushes them into the goal. "Ding! Round one" Goldberg says from the other side of the net.
Fulton get lined up to take his shot. "Look out!" Coach Bombay yells. "It's Fulton!" They all yell. Everyone moved out of the way except for Dean. "What a bunch of Wusses" Dean says. Peyton pulls Portman off to the side so he doesn't get hit. "Are you trying to die" She says causing Adam and Charlie to laugh. They watch as Fulton's shot bounces off the top of the goal, and off the ceiling.
"Half of em are ringers from various parts of The U.S. Then the other half-" Don starts to explain before he is cut off. "Duck!" Miss Mackay says while ducking. "That's right, The Ducks" Don says not understanding that she meant to duck. The puck hits Mr. Tibbles square in the face. "Ouch" Peyton mutters.
"Hello, Mr. Tibbles" Miss Mackay says trying to wake up Mr. Tibbles. Coach Bombay wipes a smelling salt under Don's nose. "Oh, Mr. Tibbles, are you alright" Miss Mackay says as Mr. Tibbles wakes up. "Oh uh, I'll have a cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate shake, please" He says. "I think he'll be okay. We'll keep an eye on him" Miss Mackay reassures. "Oh, I'm sorry. He didn't have a chance to introduce us. I'm Michelle Mackay, their tutor" She says shaking Coach Bombay's hand. "Hi, I'm Coach Bombay, their Coach." He says. "Who said we need a tutor" Adam says. "Yeah, really" Everyone says besides Peyton, Peyton didn't mind school, she was a smart kid. "I don't need no school" Portman says. "Apparently he does" Peyton whispers to Charlie causing him to chuckle. "Now, Miss Mackay, we are America's team here. Shouldn't we just be concentrating on Hockey? May I suggest, optional attendance?" Goldberg says causing Peyton to roll her eyes. "I agree" Averman says. "Yeah, good idea" They all say. "Well, that's not a bad idea." Miss Mackay says looking over at Goldberg. "Call me Goldberg" He says. "Goldberg. Yes. School will be optional." Miss Mackay says. Peyton knew there had to be some kind of a catch. The room was filled with cheers. "However, however, should you not attend, you will not be eligible to play." She explains. There is was.
After a while everyone goes home. Peyton goes over to Adam's and Charlie goes home. "You know, I think these new recruits will help us out a lot" Adam says. "Yea, probably" Peyton says. Adam could tell something was wrong. "Okay, what's wrong?" He says stopping and turning towards her. "Nothing" She says looking towards him. "There is obviously something wrong." He says. "Nothing is wrong" She says. "Peyton, I have known you long enough to know that you are lying." He says. "Ugh fine" she says. "I don't want my spot as the fastest on the team to be replaced by Luis." She admits. "Come on Peyton, is this really what this is about?" He asks. "Yes! I'm out there because of my speed. What if he replaces me or something?" She says worried. "He's not gonna replace you, and you aren't out there just because of your speed, your out there because your a good player, and because Coach is dating your mom" He jokes. "haha, very funny" She says. "I mean it though, you are a good player, Peyton" He says. "Thanks Banksie" She says while pressing her lips onto his.
"Okay, now let's go back to the dorms"
