Chapter 7 - A Winged Secret

A week later in the evening, Technoblade, Wilbur and Tommy were in the training ground. As Wilbur fell to the ground the sword in his hand slipped out and slid across the grass away from his reach. He's opponent stood in front of him.

"Come on Wilbur! Get your a** up! We just started. I thought you said you had been training with this sword for a while?" Technoblade said as he stood over him swinging his personal sword.

"Well, I was training against my TUTOR not a GENERAL" Wilbur replied as he got off the grass and picked up he's sword again.

"WOO WILBUR YOU'RE DOING GREAT! YOU SUCK SO BAD AT THIS!" said Tommy who sat by the sidelines giving a fake head nod and smile.

"Oh shut up. Come on Techno, give me all you got!"

"The last time I did, I had you on the floor with your sword a Tommy laugh away."

"HEY" said both Wilbur and Tommy.

"COME AT ME OLD MAN" Wilbur yelled and went at Techno.

As Wilbur and Techno's sword's collided the sound waves echoed through the grounds. Techno's being a relatively better one than the training one Wilbur was equipped with, Techno had the upper hand almost all the time with the stronger sword withstanding the weaker one. Soon Wilbur along with he's sword was on the floor again.

"Boo"

"Oh shut up Tommy as if you could do any better"

"Wilbur..."

"Yeah Techno?" Wilbur asked. As he looked up at him he saw Techno was facing behind him at the forest line that started right at the border of the ground and staring into a dark void. He was holding his sword in a defense position with both his hands and he's eyes were narrowed. Tommy and Wilbur both shot each other a confused look. None of them could see anything, not until an arrow shot out of the darkness and missed Wilbur's head by a millimeter and hit the door frame.

"WILBUR, TAKE TOMMY AND GO INSIDE NOW!"

realizing what was going on Wilbur rushed to Tommy grabbing his hand and rushed to the entrance to go back inside. Tommy went in, but before Wilbur did, he looked back at Technoblade, who had deflected another arrow shot from the forest. He could see who the person was kind of. He or she was wearing a ragged brown hoodie and cloak that covered his face. He had a simple bow and arrow but by the shots he was giving, he seemed to be a proper archer.

"WILBUR STOP STARING AND GO INSIDE" Techno screamed as he started heading back towards the entrance avoiding the arrows being shot behind him. He passed Wilbur and went inside. Right as Wilbur was a few feet from the entrance...

"WILBUR BEHIND YOU" Tommy screamed and as Wilbur looked behind him he saw the archer let go off his string...

With his eyes closed, Wilbur expected a sharp pain in a second. But he felt nothing, only a gush of wind around him. Opening his eyes he saw Philza in front of him with his back facing the archer. And around him were what seemed to be black circular walls that were covering him from all around. Philza was on his knees in an arched position and as he slowly started to stand up the walls seemed to move as well. As he stood up straight the walls revealed to be black wings emerging from Philza's back. Turning around to face the enemy, he shot at him with a boost from the wings, which received no damage when hit by a singular arrow. The archer knowing he was defeated fell into the darkness and wasn't to be seen. Technoblade and Tommy were frozen and confused on what was going on. As Philza calmed down from the sudden fight he lowered his wings until a black robe fell over them concealing them and making everything look normal.

He turned around to see if Wilbur was ok.

"Wilbur! Are yo-"

But what Phil didn't know was that Techno and Tommy were there as well, not just Wilbur.

"Wha... WHAT DID WE JUST SEE!?" asked Tommy speaking for Techno as well, wondering why their father was in front of them with giant black wings. After a long pause...

"*sigh* come to Wilbur's room... I'll explain everything there..."

"Wait, wait... so let me get this straight... you're half bird and half man?" asked Tommy.

"Yes, I soared across the skies at night to make sure the town was safe from... ill... explain it later."

"And your wings were hidden by the black robe you wore, for nearly your entire life?" Techno asked.

"Yes, I can hide them from view for a human with magic but its less tiring to hide it behind the robe."

"Did anyone know this?" Tommy asked.

"Yeah... I did." Replied Wilbur.

"Wait... how the hell did you know Wil?" Techno asked

"a few years ago, back when me and Tommy used to sleep in the same room, I was heading to bed late and when I came through the door to the room. I saw a dark figure with wings that was over Tommy's cot. I was obviously scared but at that moment the figure revealed to be Father. I had unknowingly walked in when Father was putting Tommy to sleep and the wings opening up was his immediate reaction to someone coming in. I was scared and I was on the verge of crying but Father told me it was ok and how he was actually like that. After that moment it was a secret between me, mother and Father. That's why he revealed his wings to protect me. He didn't know you all were there."

"Wait, Mother knew as well?!" Tommy asked surprised.

"I mean yeah she had to know" Philza said. "My stone, the Obsidian actually represents flight or freedom."

"Wait... are we going to be like you when we grow up...?" Tommy asked rubbing his back.

"Well, I got my wings at around Wilbur's age and had already learnt to fly. So I guess Techno and Wilbur aren't but I'm not really sure about you Tommy..."

"What... do you think the chances are?..."

"I'm pretty sure the chances of you getting wings might be low because looking at your brothers here they've taken on human so maybe you will too. We'll just have to see in the coming years."

"Alright"

"Do you think it just affected me a bit?" Asked Techno.

"What do you mean?" Philza asked concerned

"I mean my emotions. You told me yourself that you were concerned about my emotions after what I did to Tommy twice. Do you think there's a way it affected me?"

"*sigh* there is... you are affected by this... back when you first hurt Tommy I saw that you could become emotionally unstable unexpectingly... me and your mother were really concerned about it. And the reason I didn't want you to take role of king in the future was because I was worried that it would be too harsh and bring out your worse... before your mother passed she told me to decide on if you should be given privilege of king or not. I spent the 6 years thinking of what to do... I'm sorry Techno. I didn't want any of you all to have this curse..."

"Its... ok father... I understand that I'm not fit for the role of king..."

"I'm really sorry boys that I didn't tell you. I probably should've but I don't know why but it made me think you would love me less or something like that"

"Are you kidding?! Sure it was a bit messed up you didn't tell us but the fact that we have our dad be a freaking bird is amazing!" Tommy said immediately changing he's tone.

A small chuckle could be heard between each other.

"But I still have a question." Techno asked. "What will happen when the people find out?"

"What do you mean people!?" Philza shot up.

"What I mean is were going to have to reveal to the town that you were the birdman right? We can't just ignore this. We have to let the people know. And I'm not trying to make you look bad for the public."

"In what name do you think I'll reveal to the public about this? They'll dethrone me!"

"Father with all due respect is being king more important or losing the trust of our people if or when they find out about this on accident. Let's say a passerby saw you with your wings and spread the news. What will you do? Wouldn't it be better to reveal it to the public and let them decide if they don't mind and want you to remain king or dethrone? Or trick your people and loose there trust if they find out?" Techno said.

It was morally the right thing he should do as a king, but he wasn't sure if the people would over react. But he had to take responsibility.

"I guess... ok, I'll announce this next week... Wilbur, Tommy do you agree that I should reveal it?"

Two nods confirmed that in the coming week Philza would make a public announcement of his true form.

"Your Highness I have delivered all of the messages around the town of your inviting for all the towns folk on next Friday to the town square."

"Thank you, you may be excused now" Philza said as he gestured the messenger to leave. He found himself being more concerned and nervous as the Friday came.

Technoblade was in his room.

"Hey, Techno?" Wilbur said entering the room and closing the door behind him.

"Oh hey Wil."

"Techno... I'm... I'm scared Techno..."

"What? Why come on sit" Techno said as he gestured Wilbur to sit next him on his bed.

"If Father gets dethroned then as he said... I'm next in line... I don't know if I'm prepared to take the role as king Technoblade. I'm not ready for this role..."

"It's ok Wil. I'll help you with this. I'm still going to be your general afterwards so I can still be by your side and help you if you're in a harsh situation. We'll do this together"

"Thanks Techno... I just hope the people don't dethrone Father."

And as the two brothers hugged, they hoped their father's condition wouldn't affect their lives.
