Jasper looked hurt as I shrugged passed him and sprinted over to my dad.
"Oh, don't let me interrupt. It's good to see you've made some friends, obviously very good ones" The sarcasm dripping through his words.
I sat in the car, as I turned to put my seatbelt I peered through the window to see if he was still there, but he was gone, vanishing before my very eyes.
"Dad, don't get mad. Why are you here?"
"Oh well it's lovely to see you too darling! I was just in the neighbourhood and I thought I might as well drop you home on the way."
"Does mum know?"
The sour expression on his face suddenly turns soft.
"No, Helen doesn't know. And I don't want her too either, I just wanted to see you for a bit that's all."
"If you wanted to see me, you should have never left." The acid in my voice is very clear. I know I just spoiled the car journey but it was the truth.
The silence was screaming at me and the irony was too much, I had to say something.
"How's Suzy?"
"She's away with her old man, they've gone to sell his house. He's going to move into a bungalow, the old chap can't walk up the stairs anymore."
He was talking again, that was good. Not that I'm entirely interested at the topic on hand but anything was better than silence. By the time we reached my street I had him laughing, he pulled over and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"See you later darling. And that boy friend of yours, make sure I get to meet him soon ok?" I don't have the energy to explain to him my relationship with Jasper, so I just smile and nod. I walk home and speed walk to my room, mums staying late today at work and poppy and Rosie is at a friend's birthday party. I lay on my bed and think. What the hell happened today. Jasper happened. In just a few seconds of him entering my life everything had already turned upside down. Why did he kiss me? Cause he's a player. Why did I like it? Cause he's a good kisser. Why did he make me squirm? Cause he's Jasper. I keep thinking and rethinking, these questions spiral all night and before I know it, it's the morning. I make my way through the morning routine, and go downstairs. Mums filled the room with aroma of coffee and pancakes. She is busily dancing in time with the music on the radio and simultaneously pouring maple syrup. I love her.
"Hey sweetie." She hands me my pancakes.
I sit down and stare intently at her, she's just so carefree, why am I more affected by dad absence than she is. It's not fair.
"Where's poppy and Rosie?" I say, realising that both of them aren't here
"They both had a sleepover last night with their friend-y'know the blonde one. What's her name? Charlie?" She stops pouring maple syrup and starts scratching her head.
"Charlotte, mum"
"Bingo!" She jumps, clicking her fingers at me.
I eat the rest of my pancakes and tell her I'm off for school. I take the bus avoiding any eye contact with anyone. Suddenly someone is nudging me, I look slowly to the side, removing my ear phones. What a surprise! It's Jasper.
"Miss me much?" He chuckles.
I roll my eyes.
"Look, whatever happened yesterday. It's over. Whatever that was." I already feel my voice shaking as he looks at me deeply wide-eyed .
"But yesterday was amazing."
" I bet that what you say to every single girl who passes your way. Look I don't want trouble and Jasper, your the definition of trouble. So stop while your ahead."
He is slowly getting closer and I can already feel the cold glass window on my skin. Cornered. Again. Dang it.
"Are you sure you won't miss kissing me, or threading those fingers of yours in my hair." He whispers in my ear, I can feel the heat of his breath sticking on my neck.
I turn rapidly red. He was making me blush. Shoot.
I give an icy stare back to his direction. Then Diana, the most popular girl in our school enters the bus. She taps Jasper on his shoulder.
"Babe, last night was just fab. But you left your phone at mine. Here you are and call me whenever, yeah?"
Jasper grabs the phone and is sheepishly turning back to me. I am more angry than I have ever been before, and I don't even know why, I knew this guy was a player so why was I so annoyed.
I storm out of the bus letting him run after me, I plunge my ear phones back into my ears and keep sprinting until I reached the library. Almost immediately he is up in my face, sitting opposite me in the library. But I don't hear what he's saying and I don't look at him, instead I stare at the words in my book. My eye sight blurs and hot steam tears are threatening to spill but I never cry. And I will not show how much his lies hurt me. Look at what he's doing to me already, this is why I keep myself to myself. Suddenly the book I'm reading is pushed to the table so that I can see his face. I look everywhere but there, I can see his lips moving but I have no idea what he's saying. Instead I start singing the song that's playing.
"I know you lie, your lips are moving..." Shoot, the song links way too much to my real life circumstance. He notices this too and pulls out the earphones. His eyes are full of urgency but his face as cool as can be. He leans in to kiss me, but this time I am finally in control of my body.
"No. Stop Jasper." I push his shoulders back, his eyes a blaze of lightening
"You can have every girl in this school but me. So just move on ok?" He starts grinning lopsidedly.
"Emilia Stimson, just you wait, you'll be running into my arms by the end of this week." And with that he leaves.
I brush of his threat, but something about what he says makes my body shiver all over.
