Just friends

How did I get from not attempting to make any human contact in any form by just reading books, to a situation where I'm tongue tied because I'm kissing a guy who I hate but watching his girlfriend fold her arms and give deathly glares? I wish I could drown myself and just blend into the crowd like a chameleon, I mean I used to do it everyday and now it fails me, when I need it the most.
Jasper feels how tense I am and stops, for once I don't runaway, I stare deeply back into his eyes, alarmed. If he really was keen maybe he could- kind of be the prince I was dreaming of and just waltz me away from this? Who was I kidding?
"Jasper, explain to her that this is all just a misunderstanding, please?" My strong voice had become just a fraction of what it was now, as it came out as a mouse squeak.
"Fine." His eyes hardened and his grin had become a permanent frown, I never saw this side Jasper.
He paces towards Diana, and stands in front of her. From the angle where I was standing you could only see Jaspers back. He ruffles his hair and I see his body posture stiffen. Jasper actually has a very toned body, especially as all his shirts are so tight it's impossible to miss, not that I cared anyway. He was now talking and I heard every word like he was talking to me.
" look, Diana. What you saw-"suddenly Diana interrupts, rolling her eyes like she's heard it all before.
"What I saw was you snogging the face of that cow over there. And what's worse is that you both looked like you were enjoying it." She hissed like a serpent.
"That's because we were" he replies matter of factly, I took a quick deep breath and shuddered. Just the thought of me enjoying Jaspers presence was making me feel unsual.
"One of us were anyway" Jasper rapidly mumbles back, and this was my turn to look guilty.
"You boys are always the same. You have affairs with cows when your actual girlfriend was always with you. I don't get the logic behind it. First my dad. Then you. Look I don't want anything to do with you so you can run along back to her arms. And you-" her eyes accusingly hover to my face. I can see she's doing her best not to break that mask of lies.
"I trusted you. I told you things I've never told anyone before Em, I can't believe this is how you betrayed my trust. Plus, didn't your dad split up with your mum because of an affair. You should've known better. But I guess this is what I deserve for sharing too much. Once a bitch always a bitch." Her eyes were now flashing all types of death threats at me and her lips were forced into a thin line.
She flips her hair and confidently walks away, leaving me the total opposite.
My body, too weak to keep me up slowly collapses but not onto the floor but into strong arms.
"Emilia, talk to me, your worrying me." He only ever called my full name when he was serious.
" Jasper. This, is worrying me. I don't have time for relationships" He holds me closer, almost cupping me like a baby, but I don't feel awkward with his touch, I feel better.
"Hey, if you need time and I'll wait. But we can start of as friends" his face earnestly looks at me with warm eyes.
"Only friends?" I say just to make sure.
"Only friends... For now anyway." He chuckles. I hit him on his arm.
I then remembered there was still one thing I was confused about, I had an idea, but I wanted to know the truth.
" Jasper?"
" Yes sweetness"
I turn around so I can face him.
" Why were you not happy when you were with Diana. I mean, she told me that she felt like you were never really there when you were with her. Why? She's like the hottest girl here."
He looks at me amused.
" Do you really not know? After everything." I look into his eyes confused, but all I see is my reflection.
" let's just say, in my eyes she wasn't really the hottest girl I've ever seen." I blush without thinking and quickly look down, he's probably talking about another girl, but I can feel his eyes piercing through the back of my head.
" Ok, that makes sense" I say. He tilts his head, ever so cutely, in confusion.
" Really, how?"
" Yeah cause since your a player, you've probably dated most of the girls from all the schools in this neighbourhood. So I'm sure there must have been more prettier girls."
I look playfully back at him.
" What if I told you that I haven't dated this specific girl yet?" His grin spreads widely across his face.
" Why? She already has a boyfriend? She doesn't fall for hazel eyes and cheeky grins? Or toned muscles and players?"
Jasper mocks a hurt face.
" No, she says she's need time or something." He mumbles going bright red.
Suddenly his warm finger tips are pressing my arms.
" Your shivering, come here. Let's have a bear hug to warm you up." I look up at him with an eyebrow raised up. But I go over to him anyway because I don't have jumper and friends hug, don't they? I smell his sweet scent of Lynx and embrace his warmth. Suddenly I feel him vibrating.
" Why are you laughing." I say still hugging him.
" I told you, that you'd be in my arms by the end of the week." I can feel him smirking so I kick him where the sun doesn't shine and walk away.
" Your gonna have to do better than that to keep me away from you miss feisty." I hear him shout behind me, still laughing.
" We are just friends Jasper! The sooner you get this in that tiny brain of yours the better." I shout back to him, I turn around to wave, and he waves back.
When I walk back home that day cause I missed the bus, I felt like I was glowing. Even though every single person was giving me the evils, it didn't matter. I couldn't care less about their opinions about me before, and I still didn't. The only difference is now I have a friend. A jerky-hypnotising-crazy Friend and that's all that matters.
