NOTHING COULD PREPARE SERAPHINA FOR WHAT SHE SEES. Courtney Han was not a stranger's name. Her own aunt was seemingly involved with the same lab, the one tied to the letter and virus. What could this even mean for her?

A step sister to Stephen Han, but nonetheless they were close siblings growing up.

She had met her once. Around the mere age of twelve, Courtney met up with her father for something that Seraphina couldn't figure out at the time—she was a kid after all. Adult things. They wouldn't say.

Her dirty blonde hair tied up into a messy bun, rings, beaded necklaces and bracelets covering her body. Dressed in a grunge style. A style so bold and strange to Seraphina at the time.

"So, this your kid?"

Her intense, dark-lined eyes looked at the shy little girl hiding behind her daddy's legs. Too old to be hiding under her father's protection, yet Seraphina didn't care at all if she wasn't a toddler anymore.

He will be by her side no matter what...

Stephen laughed lightly, his eyes turning to the shape of crescents, and a slight wrinkle around his eyes. Like the moon. Amused and delighted to see his daughter keeping to her habits from her birth years.

"Yes, she doesn't like meeting strangers."

Courtney half-grinned. "I'm your aunt from now on. Let's get to know each other, okay?"

That was nine years ago. Seraphina shook her head, feeling a shiver go up her spine. A bad feeling took over, glooming as a gray cloud rose. The pit in her stomach seemed to toss and turn, along with the booming sound underneath her feet.

...It wasn't her heartbeat or stomach. Not the butterflies in the stomach feeling. The noise was becoming louder and louder. Thud. Thud. Thud.

Along with her body, the ground shook with each beat. An earthquake? No, it couldn't be. Then the whole place would be shaking and crumbling down, Seraphina would definitely be trapped and die then. Earthquakes shook the ground. This wasn't coming from the ground.

Footsteps. They were heading in her direction.

Not wanting to see what that dreadful sound was coming from, Seraphina paced her steps (so the bruising and pain wouldn't worsen) and made sure to get a fair distance away. Still, no matter if she ran or not, the sound caught up in alarming speed.

This had to be a very large monster coming after her. No man could be that big to create such a threatening, looming noise. Or to catch up so inhumanly quick. Anxiety bloomed inside her heart, ready to burst open as a flower.

Damn it. I'm so slow!

As if a explosive had gone off, the wall on her right blasted and broke into rubble and pieces of concrete. A terrifying force making it fall all the way down as if it was all pieces of foam.
