The New Kid

The new person is a boy, and he walks in with pure confidence. I mean, this is math class, why would anybody be confident. I mean, I'm smart, but I still think math is confusing. He hands the teacher a late pass. The teacher reads it and nods. "Ok, class, this is the new kid in our class, his name is Jason Lupus. You can sit next to Miss Tara Dane." she says. Jason comes and sits down in the empty seat next to me. And what happens next, is very very strange.

My heart starts to flutter. I'm staring in his direction for the first five minutes of class. What is wrong with me? It's just his deep brown eyes, his light brown hair and how it just swishes across his forehead, and how his face is just so.....cute! I start to look away and start thinking. Do I have a crush on him? I will say one thing, having a crush is a rush. It feels like I need this person in my life. My gosh, I'm just..........frozen in place on how adorable he is. Sadly, he probably won't be a popular. The popular boys are the sportsy boys, and he is wearing a sweatshirt and jeans. Definitely not a sportsy boy. He looks like he will be a generic person with no label. That's not good news.

You know how I can't be friends with normal people, well I definately can't date a normal person. That scares me because, well, he's staring at me too. I can feel that he likes me too, but I can't date him. This is terrible. As I'm thinking this in math class, my world is being crushed. I can't date my crush. Ugh. "Hey," Jason whispers to me, "what's up?" My heart is about to explode. "Uh, I'm in math class." I whisper back. Maybe I should listen to Olivia more often when she tells me how to talk to guys, I mean, I'm in math class? What is wrong with me? "Cool," he says back, "you're not listening either are you?"

"No," I reply, "math is absolutely boring."

"Yeah," he says, "you're right." Then he smiles at me. Like, a whole mouthed grin. I am actually dying. He just looks so, flirtatious when he smiles. I'm head over heels in this crush. I really hope he doesn't think that I'm like my 'friends'. The horrible thing is I have a 'boyfriend' that I'm going to the dance with. Why is my life so complicated!

Math class eventually ends, with Jason and I staring at each other the entire class. I walk to my next class, English, and somehow Jason and I sit next together in that class too. Next class is science, and what do you know! We sit together in that class too! I am so lucky! After that, we both go to lunch. I eat with the popugirls as normal and we talk about the dance, but I'm only half part of the conversation. The other half I'm staring at Jason while he's sitting at the normal kid table. Gosh, I hope I can talk to him at recess. Then lunch is over and we all head out to recess. I tell the popugirls I need some time alone. They understand, I like walking by myself a lot. I walk to the track, and eventually, to my delight, Jason joins me. I quickly say, "My friends don't like me talking to other boys. I have a boyfriend that my friends force me into."

"Oh," he says, looking upset,"I was hoping you could go out with me sometime."

"I have an idea," I say mischievously, "since he isn't my real boyfriend, we could have a secret relationship. Also my friends are the populars, and they don't like me hanging out with the not popular people. And my friends will only let me hang out with people who they think is popular. And so far, they haven't mentioned you."

"A secret relationship sounds fun," he says, "here is my phone number." He pulls out a sharpie and writes his number on my hand. I can't wait to go home and text him. I say goodbye and walk up to where my friends are.

"Who was that?" Hallie asks. Hallie is another popugirl, she's a pretty basic one.

"He's a kid from my math class. He wanted help with a problem." I reply. I hide my hand behind my back.

"Oh, yeah. He sits next to her." Olivia says. I am so glad she didn't notice me staring at him. The whistle blows and it's time for my favorite class of the day, band.
