The Dance

Our limo eventually got to school, only after an awkward car ride that Jackson was trying to flirt with me. We hopped out of the car and walked inside. The cafeteria was decorated with brightly colored streamers and bright balloons. Jackson looked at me and smiled. I groaned on the inside. Now that I have talked to him, he is pretty cool when he doesn't talk about sports, but still just not my type. I smile back, so I don't hurt his feelings. The room is also filled with other sixth graders, dancing and singing along to the music in their little clumps. Across the room I spot Jason. "So," Jackson says, "Do you wanna go dance?"

"Sure," I say, half dying as I see Jason smile at me and wave. I give a little wave back. I then gesture to Jackson as he's pulling me throught the crowd and he nods. Good, now I've communicated with Jason. Jackson pulls me towards him as some slow music starts playing. "Let's dance." He says, smiling. He puts his hands on my shoulders and I put my hands on his. We dance slowly through the song. He smiles the entire time at me, and I give a smile, to be nice, back at him. I look to the side to see Jason standing around and dancing with a group. Jackson was actually kind of good at dancing. Then again, he has danced with most of the girls in the popugirls at all of the dances. The song ends and I break apart from him. "Are you okay?" Jackson asks.

"Yeah," I reply, "I'm just not feeling well. I'll be in the bathroom."

"Ok." He says, kinda sadly. I feel kind of bad as I head to the hall and walk past Jason. I gesture to him to come. I go into the hall and sit down against the wall. "Are you okay?" Jason asks as he sits down beside me.

"Yeah," I reply, "I'm just a little.....upset. That's all."

"You can tell me what's up," he says, "Is it about your fake boyfriend?"

"Yes!" I exclaim, a little loudly. "I don't like him in the way he likes me and I like you and we're technically boyfriend and girlfriend and my life is so complicated!"

"Hey, hey, hey," he says to me, "Start from the beginning of the story." I then explain to him how I got into this popugirl mess and how I can't stop and hang out with the 'non populars' and how our relationship has to be secret.

"It's ok," he says, understanding,"I understand that this is hard to deal with."

"Thank you," I say, "I should probably go back to the dance, Jackson will be wondering why I'm gone for so long."

"Ok," he says, "Just text me when you get home. Ok?"

"Kay," I say, "Talk to you later Jason."

"Bye." He says, smiling. I walk out of the hall and back out to the dance floor. "There you are!" Jackson exclaims.

"Hi," I say, "Sorry I took so long, there was a line."

"It's fien," he says smiling,"It's just good you're here." We dance some more and it comes to the end of the dance. It's time to break up with Jackson.

"Hey," I say, "I need to talk."

"Ok," he says and pulls me over to the hall, "What's up?"

"Ok," I say, "I need to express some feelings."

"Ok," he smiles,"Express."

"Well," I say, "I was thinking that we should..."

"Kiss?" He says.

"No!" I say, "I was thinking we should break up."

"What?" He exclaims, "Nobody breaks up with me!"

"Well I am," I say, looking up at his sad eyes, "I'm just not feeling it."

"It's, fine." He says sadly.

"Ok, well I better get back home." I say.

"Bye," he says, "but Tara, just so you know, I do like you if you change your mind."

"Ok," I say, "bye." I walk out of the school and out to my moms car. I step inside and stare out the window the entire way home.
