Ch4: A New Beginning and a New Friendship

Tyler, Tyler, Tyler... his name kept repeating in my head as I walked to my next class. I kept my head down, trying to be invisible to the rest of the world, afraid to be treated like I had been in my previous school; before Cindy came along. I didn't notice my surroundings until I suddenly tripped and fell. I closed my eyes, waiting for the impact but instead I felt a strong grip on my waist, holding me up. I slowly opened my eyes and looked up. To my surprise, it wasn't a stone wall, but Tyler. I quickly noticed that I was in his arms as I felt heat creep up onto my cheeks once again. It turned very awkward when I remembered that I was just thinking of him.

"Hey Ams! Heading to chemistry?" Tyler greeted, still holding me by the waist. I felt heat shoot up my cheeks once again as Tyler gave me a new nickname. Whoa! Wait…. What did Tyler just say again? I racked my brain as I recalled what he had said. Oh yeah…chemistry.

"Hey... Tyler. Yeah; are you in chemistry next block too?" I questioned, as he let go of me, helping me back to my feet.

"As a matter of fact, I am. Could I sit with you?"

“Of course. Why not? "

"Thanks. You are the best friend ever."

I couldn't stop smiling. The feeling of my first best friend at Shannon Heights made my whole day much better. During chemistry, we talked and talked until the teacher got mad at us and told us to quiet down. We immediately stopped talking but I began to giggle as he started to chuckle. The giggling and chuckling quickly turned into laughing. The teacher came back to us, looking more serious, as she gave us the evil eye.

"Why don't you two love birds head to the office? That's a command not a suggestion," she said sternly, practically spitting on us while pointing with the stupid white board marker.

“Sure.” I said boldly, as the words the teacher said finally registered in my brain. She called us love birds! That shocked me as I stood up and went to the office, Tyler quietly following my footsteps. She called us lovebirds! Lovebirds! The thought swirled around in my head until we arrived at the office, seeing the principle waiting and standing right in front of us. I looked up slowly and tried hide my smile. This was too much fun. Tyler is so awesome.

"You two! Go into my office. Now!

“Spaz...” I whispered quietly under my breath. I head Tyler quietly chuckle beside me, indicating that he heard me.

We walked into the room, frightened like he was a kidnapper that would kill us if we didn't do what he said. I put on a brave face as I sat down on an uncomfortable wooden stool. Tyler quietly sat down beside me and sighed. Finally the principle came in to give us the big lecture. He sat down and started glaring at us. I look to my side, seeing Tyler trying to put on a straight face but I see the smile he's trying to hide. I keep on looking at him in awe. I hear a throat clear, interrupting the beautiful silence.

“Would any of you like to explain?”

I looked at the principal, with one of my eye brows raised, as if I was looking at him with the 'Really?' expression. I sighed and took a sideways glance at Tyler. He looked back at me but then the principal interrupted us again.

“I'm assuming it is your fault, Ms. Neely. Seeing as you couldn't be respectful even to--”

"Principle Franklin!!! It wasn't Amanda's fault. It was all mine. Please don't get mad at her; I'm the one you should be mad at."

My heart was pounding out of fear and joy. My stomach was erupting like a volcano and I couldn't help but smile. In my head I was thinking, "Wow! What a gentlemen."
