Ch5: What Joy (You and Me)

I sighed as I heard the garage open. This meant my dad was back and I knew this wouldn’t be good. I bet Mom already told him about what happened and would most likely say that it was entirely my fault. Apparently I deserve a punishment; unfortunately there was nothing I could do about it. I lie down on my bed and reach for my school planner to see what homework we had. I open it up to today's date and I see Tyler's cell phone number and his email. He must have written it in my planner when I wasn't looking. The corners of my mouth turned up as I remembered what kind of a friend he has been to me today.

"Amanda; come down here. We need to talk!"

Here we go again I sighed. This was not good. I slowly walked down the stairs, trying to collect my thoughts before I face the wrath of them. What are they going to say? Are they going to ground me? What happens if they ban me from seeing Tyler ever again? They can't do that to me! I just lost my best friend recently; would they like me to lost another in just a matter of a few weeks? No, no, no, no... I started hyperventilating; they can't do this to me! I'm only 14! Oh dear God, please help me, shooting up a silent prayer as I saw both of my parents sitting on the living room sofa. In my head I couldn't stop panicking. What should I do now? Act natural, act cool. I quietly sat down on the small footstool in front of them. It was placed there just for me. Oh, what joy…here they go with lectures again! My mom instantly started to talk when she saw me sit down in front of her. Didn't we just discus this? As usual, I sat there and pretended to listen. Nodding my head ever so often and focusing on her eyes. They were showing pure disappointment.

"Amanda, I know today was your first day at school, but how could you get in trouble? I am very disappointed in you. Of course, you know how you're never supposed to get in trouble. Especially on the first day! The principal said that you were rude! Why don't you be like Alyssa, Andrew or Anthony? They never get in trouble on the first day of school! We just moved he--”

"STOP…JUST STOP! Can you please stop? Okay? Stop comparing me to my siblings, mom! I'm not like them and that should be okay with you!” I took a deep breath before continuing, trying to keep my emotions intact. “Mom, I know I'm new to this school, but he was explaining stuff to me during first block. No big deal.”

"I'm going to let you off the hook this time but next time I'm not going to be Mrs. nice women again."

"Why does everyone keep on saying that to me today?” I murmur to myself.

"Second thing; I don't want you dating that Tanner, Trevor or whatever his name is guy. You barely know him."

"Mom! His name is Tyler, plus, we are going to get to know each other more! I never said we were dating…yet....didn't I tell you already? Besides, he's really nice and a gentleman too. I bet if you got to know him, you would think he's okay to date."

"Honey, I think we should let Amanda think this over. She's obviously responsible enough; right Amanda? Why don't you go upstairs?" my dad said calmly.

I left without a word and ran up to my room, slamming the door shut behind me. I jumped onto my bed and just lay there, fuming with anger. How could my mom do this to me? I'm 14! I think I'm old enough to make my own decisions. I'm not a kid anymore! I decided to go to Anthony for help. He always helps me, unlike my other brother Andrew. Andrew’s no help. I quietly slipped out of my room and walk over to his, knocking on the door softly.

"Hey Anthony, can I come in?"

“Yeah.”

I walked in to see him practising his electric guitar and writing notes down on a piece of paper. I sat on his white and blue bed, matching the walls. It was Mom's idea.

"What's up Amanda? Heard you got a boyfriend."

"Not really, but what should I do? Mom's not going to let me date the guy."

"Well... I would say get to know the guy more first and when he comes over he has to make a good impression. I'll also go talk to mom for you, try to convince her first.”

"Really? You'd do that? Thanks! You are the best brother ever. Andrew or Alyssa would never do that.”

"No problem. You're my favourite little sister and that's what older brothers are here for, right?”

I reached over to give Anthony a hug before I left. I quickly ran into my room and picked up a book. I was reading The Hunger Games, which I read twice already, was honestly one of my favourite novels.

*knock knock knock*

"Can I come in?"

"Yeah sure dad."

"Just ignore you're mom for now, she's not in a happy mood today.”

"I can tell. She's been yelling at me for the whole day."

"Just to let you know, I'm not against you dating Tyler or any guy for that matter."

"Really Dad?"

"Of course! I started dating when I was your age. I'll talk to your mom for you. Don't worry."

"Okay. Thanks Dad."

“Dinner time!” my mom yelled.

My dad and I walked downstairs together. We could hear everyone talking about my new 'boyfriend'. Can't they just let it go? I sat down and then everything turned silent. It felt kind of weird because we normally had dinner conversations. At least it was better than getting yelled at. I finished dinner as quickly as I could so I could go back upstairs. I got my cell phone and added Tyler. The moment I added him, he texted me.

Ty: Hey Ams! Wuzzup?

Ams: Hey Ty, nothing much. You?

Ty: Just playing video games... Do you want to go to the movies with me?

Ams: Umm...sure. When?

Ty: Anytime as long as it's okay with you. Okay with you, okay with me :)

Ams: We'll see. Let's talk tomorrow. I got to go now. Bye <3

Ty: Oh okay. Bye!! Love you!

Ams:......love you too....

I close my phone and decide to go to bed early. That night I went to bed with a smile on my face.
