Marinette's POV
"Thank you so much, Nathalie," a male voice said. Eyes fluttering open only to be greeted by a bright white light. Groaning I forced them closed; "did you bring everything I asked for," the voice asked.
"Of course, but do you think this is really going to work?" A female voice responded I guess that was this Nathalie person.
"It has to," the male said, and I felt something warm grab my hand. Causing me to flinch as I opened my eyes again. Everything looked blurry, blobs of colors swirling together. In the room, I could hardly tell who the two figures were.
"Oh, Mon Dieu Nathalie she's awake" he yelled causing me to wince again. "Go get the doctor!" the sound of heels clicking soon faded.
"S-s-so lo-loud" I managed to whisper my vision slowly sharpening. There was a pair of green eyes staring down at me with concern. His cheeks were wet with tears and strands of blonde hair stuck to them.
'Why was he crying?'
Slightly coughing my throat felt dry, glancing at the nightstand beside me. He reached over to the pitcher of water. He placed a straw in it and brought it towards my lips. Opening my lips to receive the straw I struggled to take four sips of water.
Eventually, Nathalie returned with a doctor; I listened as she introduced herself and walked to the other side of the bed. She pulled back my heated blanket and examined my left foot that was in a cast. My eyes widened at the stitches that were on my thigh. As she then checked my wrists which I finally noticed were wrapped in bandages. The doctor explained how my stitches were to stay on for at least three weeks. Even with the bandages on my wrists the skin surrounding it was red and puffy.
'What in the world happened to me?'
"Alright, Mrs. Agreste everything is looking great. Your body is doing an amazing job healing at this rate." The doctor announced, my nose scrunched at the name Agreste. Is that my last name, it sounded like a last name. A sharp pain exploded in my brain causing me to grip the blanket.
"Marinette!" The guy yelled his voice filled with panic. While the doctor told him to calm down and instructed me to calm my breathing.
Taking in deep breaths the pain eventually subdued and the doctor explained that the pain was tied to me becoming overwhelmed. As I controlled my breathing all I could focus on was the name that he yelled.
'Marinette. Marinette Agreste?'
Glancing down at my hands I notice a ring on the left hand. The ring was rose gold and the heart monitors' beeping began to increase.
'I am married!"
Staring at the doctor as she went over the outpatient care procedures. Once she was finished, she pulled the blonde and Nathalie out of the room. As they converse, I overheard the doctor address Nathalie as my mother. Using the last name Dupain-Cheng and the man as Mr. Agreste.
"Adrien please go and help Marinette into the wheelchair," my Maman said. Watching both of them enter the room.
'Adrien... Adrien Agreste. What a nice name......and he's, my husband?!'
Internally screaming I could feel my cheeks flush. As I started racking my brain for memories of us together. Unfortunately, nothing was popping into my head; why couldn't I remember my husband or my Maman. Tears brimmed my eyes and my nose started to sniffle as Adrien helped me into the wheelchair.
"What's wrong Marinette?" Adrien asked as we exited the hospital and paused at the entrance. He was kneeling in front of me, he placed his hand on my knees.
"Adrien I-I can't remember our wedding! It's like there are holes where my memories should be." He cocked his head to the side and through my tears. I could see him rub the back of his neck smiling. He placed a kiss on the top of my head and stood up.
We watched as a black car arrived. The driver greeted us as my Maman sat in the front. While Adrien helped me into the backseat. As the driver drove, I watched from the window as we passed buildings, trees. Very quickly I was feeling drowsy, and my head fell onto my husband's shoulder. And I drifted asleep with his head soon falling onto mine.
~~~~~
When I awoke, I was lying in a queen-sized bed. Black silk sheets, comforter covering my body. Looking around the room I saw Adrien asleep in a chair. There was a flat-screen TV mounted on the wall across from me. While a painting of water lilies decorated the wall to my right. Smiling that I could remember that it was a painting by Claude Monet I tried to moved the bedding off me. Struggling to sit up I shifted my hips and a jolt of pain shot through me.
"Aaah" I hissed gritting my teeth as I laid back down.
"Mmm... Marinette what are you doing?"
"Oh, well" I pushed myself up to sit against the headboard and my stomach growled.
"Well, I guess you would be hungry if you have slept for eleven hours."
'Eleven hours!'
Adrien helped me into the wheelchair and guided me past the hallways. Leading into the dining hall which was surrounded in black and white. From the doors to the lightning features, oh did I mention how huge the place was! Right in the center of the room was a long black marble table with white chairs perfectly pushed in. As well as a portrait of Adrien and a man who was most likely his father.
In the corner of the room was my Maman, her tall thin frame was leaning against a wall. She was fiddling with a tablet her eyes downcast on the screen. My observation of her was interrupted when Adrien placed me in the middle of the table.
"Nathalie, can you get a plate of food for Marinette," Adrien asked. Maman nodded as she placed the tablet to her side.
"Actually, Adrien honey can you fix it I want to talk with my Maman." He looked at me and nodded, heading off to wherever the kitchen was. Watching as she walked over to take a seat of her own next to me.
"Did you sleep well?" she asked pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose. Her voice is as smooth as honey.
"Honestly it was the longest I've slept in the longest time." Glancing at the wall in front of us the clock mounted said that it was past nine. She turned towards me her serious blue eyes locked with mine.
"Well, your body is healing and Adrien was very worried about you."
"Sorry."
"Pardon?" I gestured my wrists towards her.
"For this, though I don't remember exactly what happened, I guess it was pretty bad, Maman." Her body slightly tensing I thought how hard this must be on her. Changing the subject, I asked about my wedding. Pressing her lips together she told me all about how I designed my own wedding dress. "Was Papa able to walk me down the aisle by the way where is Papa?" Before she could answer my questions Adrien came back into the room. Carrying a plate of spaghetti and meatballs with bread.
Maman got up from the table as Adrien placed the plate in front of me. She quickly explained that she had business to take care of. Telling her goodbye as she left Adrien took her place in the chair.
"This looks amazing," I said grabbing a fork with a shaky hand.
"I'm glad you like it" I could feel him stare at me as I ate.
"Adrien you're staring," I said around bites. Earning a chuckle from him I rolled my eyes. Though using the fork my hand was trembling.
"Do you want me to feed you?" Dropping the fork my wrist starting to throb.
'Shit.'
"It's okay Marinette it's just going to take some time for your wrists to adjust and heal. So don't push yourself, okay" he picked up the fork and twirled the noodles. Nodding in agreement at his logic I lifted my wrists.
"For better or for worse right."
"It's us against the world Mari" he lifted the fork to my lips.
"As always" I responded receiving the pasta.
