~Prologue~

Hadley Velvet's eyes examined the man in front of her with curiosity.

She had no idea why she had to meet him here of all places, a diner was anything but discreet

She couldn't figure out how he knew who she was but she held her tongue for now and watched him

He smiled slightly before saying "You can drop your guard Miss Velvet. No one will hurt you here" he said

Hadley sighed "Alright." She said, "How did you know my identity?"

"We've been watching you for a while Miss Velvet." Fury said

Hadley scoffed "Okay? Cause that's not creepy" she said sarcastically

Fury shrugged "it's just what we do"

"Watch random citizens?" Hadley asked

"Well. You're not just any random citizen, are you? ...Comet" Fury said, raising a brow

"What do you want?" Hadley asked, becoming a little more defensive

"Calm down. Like I said, no one will hurt you here" Fury said, "I actually wanted to recruit you. Call it an enlistment"

"An enlistment?" Hadley asked

"I'm calling it the avengers initiative" Fury said, "a group of heroes, such as yourself, working together to keep the world, our world safe"

"A group of heroes? I work alone" Hadley said

"No one needs to be alone" Fury replied

"And um... What makes you think I want to join your super secret boy band?" Hadley asked, leaning back in her chair

Fury chuckled to himself at that "you and Tony Stark would get along" he mumbled before looking up and saying, "I think you'd want to join because we do what you do."

"And what is that?"

"Fight for the greater good"

Hadley stared at him quietly then sighed "Even if I were... To agree to this... Thing... How many people would know who I am? How many people would that put at risk..?" Hadley looked down at the table quietly, "I've lost people because of this... Thing that I do... I don't want to lose any more.."

"The only people who would know are your fellow avengers." Fury said, "no civilians, no family members, just them"

"Doesn't that put them in danger?" She asked

"Well, people knowing their identites hasn't put them in danger yet" Fury replied

"People know their identites? What do they just announce it on the news or something?" Hadley asked, looking up at him

"Technically... Yes" Fury replied

Hadley sighed and looked at the table, running her fingers through her hair

"Just.. think about it okay? And then get back to me" Fury said, handing her a card, "if we need you, we'll be in contact with you again"

"Alright... I'll think about it... But I can't promise... Anything" Hadley said

"That's all I'm asking" Fury replied. He stood and adjusted his coat, "I'll be in touch"

And with that he walked out the door and down the street, leaving Hadley alone

Hadley looked at her hands quietly then sighed before grabbing her purple ball cap.

She put it on her head and adjusted it before looking around.

Then she left the diner to think about Fury's offer
