~Chapter 1~
If there was one thing Hadley Velvet loved, it was a quiet rooftop in the darkest parts of the city.
Here she could just barely see the stars, and that was enough.
It was here that helped her think. This is where she came when she needed to be completely alone.
She looked around quietly before she sat down, her feet hanging off the edge of the roof
She stared up at the night sky thoughtfully.
What would happen if she joined a team of other heroes? What would they be like?
Hadley looked at her hands
She'd only had her powers for a short time, she developed them when she was 20.
(Yes there's an age gap. I haven't decided how old she is yet but she's in her 20s or very early 30s)
After years and years of studying, her in depth look at astronomy and the study of time and space paid off in ways she could never imagine.
She unlocked the secrets of what could essentially be the line between science and what could only be described as... Well... Magic
She clenched her fists and sighed
No one knew about this. To join this team she'd have to do something she hadn't done in years... Let people into her life.
That was definitely not something she was ready for.
Memories flashed, making her heart retch.
The short period of time that she was in college, she grew very close to one of her science professors, Professor Angelo Dawkins. He became sort of like a father figure to her, hers having disappeared before she was born.
After she discovered the powers, he was the first person she went to. She showed him what she could do.
Her powers are difficult to describe but she liked to call them a sort of local space manipulation.
Channeling the energy and space around her, she could make things levitate off the ground.
Focusing on the space around her and the particles that made her up, she could make herself invisible.
And if she really concentrated she could even teleport or fly short distances.
Professor Dawkins was amazed by her findings and commended her on them. He helped her develop her powers.
But one day, she made a terrible mistake, she told someone else about her powers.
That person turned out to be selfish. Turned out to be greedy. He kidnapped Dawkins as leverage over Hadley, trying to get her to give him powers too.
She tried to explain that she couldn't just grant powers and he refused to accept it.
An all out battle erupted because of it.
And in the cross fire... Dawkins was struck and taken down... He died within minutes.
After defeating her foe, Hadley vowed she would learn from her mistakes... And never tell another soul about her identity.
But now? She was wrestling with a great dilemma.
It was true that she saw the merit behind the avengers, the amount of people they could help together would be astronomical, and that was what she was all about... Saving people, keeping people she loves and even people she doesn't even know safe... But to tell her identity to who knows how many others... To let people back in her life..?
She wasn't even sure she knew how to do that anymore
She didn't know how she could cope, putting good people at risk..
She sighed and laid back, staring at the sky
She didn't even know what it was like, letting people close to her
That was when she realized.
She didn't have to be close with these people. She didn't have to be friends. She just had to fight with them
She sat up quick and looked at her hands.
She clenched them tightly and nodded to herself
"Alright.." she mumbled, searching her suit pockets before pulling out the card Fury had given her
She hesitated a moment before dialling
It rang for a brief moment before
"Agent Fury"
"Fury? It's Comet... I'm in" she said, getting straight to the point
She could almost hear the smirk from the other end of the phone
"Excellent. Are you ready for your first mission?"
