~Chapter 34~
"Whoever's still standing we need to move" Barton said, "Guys?"
Hadley turned and her eyes widened as she walked into a familiar office
She looked around in confusion at all the degrees and plaques in the room before turning and spotting the desk chair, which was turned away from her
She tilted her head as she stepped closer
Then it spun around
And there was none other... Than Angelo Dawkins.
Hadley looked at him in surprise.
His hair was graying, he had more facial hair than she remembered. He looked much older than he did when he... But the worst part was the bloody hole on the side of his head, hot red liquid leaking down the side of his face as he stared up at her
"And what are you doing here Velvet?" He asked, glaring at her
"Pro... Professor Dawkins... I.."
"You what? Come to get me killed again?" He asked
"N-No I- I didn't mean for.."
"For what? For me to die? For me to lose everything... For you?" He asked, standing
"N-No... It wasn't like that... It wasn't my-"
"Yes it was. If it weren't for you I'd be alive wouldn't I?" He asked, "if it weren't for that damned curiosity of yours... They say curiosity killed the cat but I guess the cat let her mentor die instead"
"No Professor-"
"And then you honestly believed you could become a real hero after this?" He asked, "pathetic. You couldn't even save me... How do you expect to save them"
He gestured his arm to the window and she looked out. Hundreds of millions of people stared up at her, looking desperate and lost. Chanting nothing but two words
"Save us"
"You can't even save yourself... You've done nothing but fail me. And what now? You expect him-" he gestured again and she looked behind her, Tony stood looking at her with a quiet frown on his face, "to love you? The Great Tony Stark... With a nobody like you..."
"N-No... He likes me he-"
"Does he? Because if he did... Why would he lie then hm?" Dawkins asked
Tony scoffed "You're nothing to me" he said
Tears filled Hadley's eyes
"You're not a hero" Dawkins said, "you're a monster. A murderer"
The whole scene changed and flashed before her eyes and there lie everyone she cared about. Her mother, Dawkins, Tony, Steve, Nat, Bruce... Everyone... Laid out in front of her, in front of their own tombstones. All of their dead eyes stared directly at her
Hadley let out a strangled scream and dropped to her knees as Dawkins' voice echoed around her
"You will never be a hero"
