Chapter 9

D̷a̷n̷I̷ P̷O̷V̷
My alarm went off at 5:55 AM as it always does. I got up brushed my teeth, washed my face, brushed my hair back and took my meds. I pulled on some shorts and a random wife beater, before slipping on my socks and running shoes.

Every morning I go for a run with Bagel. Doing this keeps me in shape for softball, but more importantly it clears my head.

Bagel and I ran 2 miles before coming back home. I fed Bagel and hopped in the shower. It was nine when I got out. I put on a different pair of shorts after I put on my boxers and sports bra.

I walked down the hall to my mom's room.
"Mamá, ¿quieres que entre a trabajar hoy?"
"¡sí, cariño! tú estarás a cargo, ¿de acuerdo?"
"Okay Mamá"

My mom owns an animal hospital and several animal clinics around the state. Janel and I have been working at the clinics since we were old enough to count. Now that I'm older, I plan to take over the clinic closest to home.

I know everything there is to know about the clinic and how to run it. I know how to file the paperwork, I know how to train new employees, I know how to diagnose whatever condition the animals may be in.

Now, my mom is planning on opening another hospital further into the city and a couple grooming shops near the clinics.

I pulled on some jeans and a tshirt. For breakfast I made some avocado toast and turkeys bacon. I made some pomegranate tea and sat down to eat after I fed Bagel.

"Buenos Dias" Janel said coming downstairs still in her nightclothes.
"Mornin. You coming to the clinic today?"
"Um I'm training at location 7 today"
"Okay. I'll be at location 1 if you need me. When you going in?"
"Mm around 12"
"Okay"

I grabbed my wallet and keys and put them in my pocket with my phone. I got Bagel in her harness and grabbed her leash. I put Bagel in her car seat in the back of my jeep and realized I didn't have my work bag in there.

"Are you leaving now bebé?" My mom asked coming from the kitchen
"sí. I left my bag"
"You weren't gonna say 'adios' to your mother?"
"Adios Mamá" I said
"Byeeee my bebé!" She said hugging me tight

I got back in my car and started route to clinic 1. It took me around 15 minutes get there and we weren't even open yet. I looked at my watch and we should have been open 30 minutes ago.

I grabbed my bag and let Bagel out her seat and we walked into the location. The door was open so somebody was here. I walked around, but I didn't see anyone. Then I heard laughter coming from the back. I walked into the break room and three of our employees were sitting in the back chillin not caring that we should have been open half an hour ago.

"What are y'all doin" I asked when I walked in completely
"Oh uhh-we" Carie said
"We didn't know you were coming" Monty said
"Okay, why is my clinic not up and running? I sure hope y'all haven't clocked in since y'all in the back hee-hee and ha-ha ing instead of working."

"See the clinic never gets business this early in the morning so there's no need for us to be out there if no one comes in" Monty said
"It doesn't matter whether or not people come in. How are they supposed to know we open if they don't see anyone in here?"
"Well-" Tisha started
"You get paid to do your job. So do it" I told them walking out

I shook my head glad I didn't cuss them out. I walked into my office and changed into my scrubs. I grabbed my clipboard and computer to print out the schedule for today. We are expecting 4 people with their pets in the next ten minutes and we aren't prepared for anything. Not including the walk-ins and emergencies.

I got my charts printed off and clipped the needed documents to the board. I put Bagel's bandana on and I decided that I would work the front desk until more employees clocked in.
