Chapter 10

T̑̈ȃ̈l̑̈ȋ̈y̑̈ȃ̈h̑̈  P̑̈Ȏ̈V̑̈

"It's been four days since I left Dani's. I'll admit it hurt a little what happened and the way it happened. She isn't answering my calls or texts and I'm kinda concerned. I went over there yesterday and her mom said she wasn't doing to well. She said Dani came down with a fever so I didn't get to see her. You think I should make her a get well soon basket?" I asked Samaria and Amali who were sitting on the floor with me.

"Yea that'll make her feel better" Samaria said
"Umm. Yea she likes purple" Amali said looking away

"I just don't understand what I did wrong? I just wanted to help her" I pouted
"Dani is... stubborn. She's trying to deal with everything on her own and she doesn't want to 'burden' anyone else"

"But it's not a burden! I want to help" I said loud
"I know that and she knows that but, she has to accept that she's not perfect and that that's okay" Amali said
"What is she dealing with that's so... hard for her?" I thought out loud
"It's not my place. She'll talk to you when she's ready."

"So what I'm hearing is you're pushing her away already?" Rocky asked laying on the floor with me.
"I guess"
"Why? So you're not perfect? Really? You're not the only one!" Rocky yelled
"I'm aware of that. But some of us are less perfect than others." I told her
"So! We're a bunch of fucking studs! You think society sees us a 'perfect'?" She yelled
"Society can suck my strap." Lea said hanging off the edge of my bed and we all laughed,

"At least we got a laugh" Rocky said
"I know you're afraid of getting hurt again, but you'll be more hurt if you don't try" Lea told me
"Facts. What made you start to spiral in the first place?" Rocky asked

"My dad... he sent his annual letter telling me how I'm a disappointment and I'll never be anything."
"Why do you even open his letters?" Lea asked me
"Honestly... I don't know. Maybe I hope he'll have had some realization that he doesn't hate me or that he'll at least apologize"

"Okay. But you're stunting your progress. I know it's easier said than done, but you have to let go" Rocky said being serious for once
"Then I snapped at Taliyah. She was only trying to help but it just made me so mad"
"Are you taking your meds?" Lea asked
"Yes. I take my meds every morning"

"That's good. This is just a rough patch. We'll get through it" Rocky said smiling a little
"How many rough days until I'm happy?"
"I don't know. But the more you lay here sulking, the longer you stay in these feelings." She said back.
"I think you should talk to Taliyah while you're still vulnerable and maybe she'll surprise you" Lea said.

I thought about that maybe I should. Rocky and Lea left about three hours ago.
*knock knock*
"Dani are you okay?" Janel
"Yea I'm fine."
"Are you sure? You haven't been out all week-"
She stopped when she saw the opened letter
"Why do you do this to yourself? You know he doesnt- he shouldn't- he isn't worth your tears, Dani" she said tearing up
"I know"
"Then why do you you cry?" She asked crawling onto the bed next to me
"Because it hurts Janel. It hurts to have to deal with this"
"But you can! You have to... I need you to" she said hugging me.
"I know. I'll be okay"  I told her
"You promise?" She asked
"Yes I promise"

Janel and I fell asleep in my bed. I carried Janel into her room and tucked her into her bed when I woke up. The doorbell rang and there was a knock on the door. I opened it and Taliyah stood there holding a box with a bunch of candy, ice cream, teddy bears, and I saw a card in there too. She had food and flowers in her other hand.... Flowers. She brought me flowers.
