S2 Chapter 5: The Door Is Open

Somewhere in Unisberg, a flash of red shines through the darkness.

The same evening of Unisberg's Saber tournament went wrong, the three Masters had gone their separate ways. Adam and Musashi returned to their town home as Julius and his servants went to their home. Lanling went to Shou's house as he was instructed, and Shou himself was running around the city in pursuit of Nero.

"Huff, huff... " Shou lets out heavy breaths after his two hour run around that followed up a three hour general search. By this point he was determined to set things straight, he had to let out the card he's been holding all too closely. Once he was ready, Shou walked down the sidewalk and around the corner to the last place he could think to look.

Shou enters Tonio's Cafe, "Anthony?! Anthony, are you here?"

Anthony, the current owner of the establishment was coming around the counter from the back, the place was usually empty at this time, and today was no exception.

"Oh, it's just you making all that noise. Dear god, you're a mess, have some water."

"No thanks. Did Nero come in here?" Shou asks.

"Hm? Nero? No, in fact she hasn't come by in a while, is everything alright?"

Shou walks in, "Well you see..."

7 Minutes Later.

"What?! Well what are you still doing here?! Shoo shoo. Go find her!" Anthony says frantically.

"Yeah I know, that's what I have been trying to do... Anthony on second thought. Can I get that glass of water?"

Anthony dips down and pulls back up a gallon.

"Just take this."

"Thanks... " Shou grabs the water jug and heads to the door, "I'll just have to keep looking until tomorrow it's getting dark."

"Wait, before it's too late. Try the gardens in the park." Anthony says.

Shou leaves without a word.

"Gardens in the park. Because... because roses..." Shou mulls over the thought, before going into somewhat of a sprint after chugging a large sum of water.

After some 20 minutes, Shou finds Nero sitting down on a park bench with a bundle of roses in hand, the street lights had already begun to turn and the sun setting.

"Nero." Shou says drinking some water and setting it down on the ground.

"Not a step closer!" Nero stands in a dignified manner.

"Nero, listen to me!"

"I've listened once, and all I heard was gibberish! Nonsense! Lies!"

"No."

"Yes.

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Clearly you favor that man over me! Some standing ovation you gave! Yet all I'm to receive is a good job. How arrogant of you to not applaud my efforts... efforts that gave my opponent no bother in the slightest!"

"Nero, that's not true! I was going to do something special for you afterwards!"

"Lies!"

"I'm not lying."

"Yes."

"No.

"Ye— life is lived in the present... Farewell Shou. I will go on my own." Nero begins to leave.
