April's POV:

Y/n and I stand there still holding each other for awhile. I pull away and she wipes my tears with a sad smile. I lean into her touch, taking it in

"I'm going to go check on Barren." I say, she nods and kisses my forehead

"Okay." she says and I walk away while she runs my back until I'm out of reach. I walk up to Barrens room and the door is closed. I knock on it and hear a faint 'Come in' I open the door and see Barren sitting at his PC playing a game. His headphones are around his neck then he pauses the game and turns around to me

"Are you okay Mom?" he asks, I nod

"Yes, I'm fine. How are you?" I ask sitting in his bed putting my hands in my lap

"I mean I could've gone without seeing him, but mom, what if he does come back. And it's not when Y/n is here. I don't know if I'll be able to protect you like Y/n." he says in a sweet voice, making my heart melt. How do I deserve this kid, he is so amazing

"It's going to be okay, I can call the cops if needed. Also, there's this thing called a restraining order where if I sign one and put his name on it, he won't be aloud to see, touch, or even talk to us. Okay." I say reassuring him, he nods his head then gets up and hugs me, tight

"I love you mom, I just want to be able to protect you like Y/n." he says which is muffled by my shoulder, I rub his back

"I know, I know you do." I say, he looks up to Y/n so much. Probably more than anyone. She is his role model, his best friend, his 'father figure'. He pulls away and gives me a small smile

"Please don't leave her." he says, I give him a smile back

"I won't." I say, then remembering we aren't officially dating. Is she going to ask me? He goes back to playing on his PC. I walk downstairs after closing his door. I see Y/n cooking something and it smells amazing. I go up behind her and wrap my arms around her waist and lay my head against my back

"How did it go?" she asks, I hum

"Good, he's just scared that he can't protect me like you can." I sigh, there's silence, almost like she doesn't know what to say "He really looks up to you, you know." I say breaking the silence. She turns the stove off and moves the pan off the burner and turns around wrapping her arms loosely around me

"He can protect you. Maybe not physically, but mentally he's got you. Barrens your son, he's going to worry about you, but he knows all the right things to do and say to make you feel better." she says looking down at me, I look into her Y/c/e, she sounds sincere about this. I nod and pull her head down for a kiss

"Eww. Get a room!" we hear Barren say walking into the kitchen. We both laugh and pull away, he laughs a little "I smelled something amazing, what is it?" he asks taking a seat at the bar

"Oh, it's just some pan fried chicken. My mom's recipe." Y/n explains to him

"Sounds great, I'm hungry." he says making us laugh once again. Y/n is right, he does know how to make me feel the least bit better.
