Chapter Forty-Six
Missed

I wish the next few weeks were as simple as hanging out with Eros but it wasn't. My job has gotten me occupied to the point where I spend my whole day working.

"Guess what?" Engineer Eria went inside my office while I was typing up a cost estimation. He's one of the people I work with on a major construction project. If he's here, then it must about the Ember Condominiums we were constructing in Baguio. "Ember Baguio is almost sold-out."

Hindi ko siya nilingon because I was busy typing. But I recognized it. "That's fast. We're still months from completion."

"I'm checking the site later. Wanna come?"

"I'm booked," I told him. "I'm meeting with the legal team later in the afternoon. Baka bukas ako pumunta."

"For?"

Doon na dumako ang atensyon sa kaniya. I should have thought of what to say before I speak.

I shrugged. "Well... some client who filed a lawsuit."

Engineer Eria nodded. He didn't ask further but his gaze was dubious. I sighed and let him leave my office and think whatever he wanted to think of. Mamaya, baka malaman ko na lang na pinag-uusapan na ako ng ibang office mates.

When I first met him, my first impression is he's a man of politics. I assume his fixation is to get in the good graces of the higher-ups in the company. We're both rookies and my family manages the company so I can see that he's keeping tabs on my every move. As if one day I'd try to use my connection and get ahead of him.

I shouldn't have mention anything about the legal team. Ngayong maaring nalaman niyang irerepresent ko ang kumpaniya isa isang lawsuit. Silveria is a defendant in a civil case and Mamá appointed me to it. I'll meet with our corporate lawyer later for consultation and discuss the action we might take against the suit.

The examination with Atty. Devera took around an hour before I left their firm. After that, I had one last final site visit on a recently-demolished building before I called it a day. I was overseeing different construction projects during my first few months at work. The longest I had to work was 17 hours. Sometimes, I can't meet with Eros.

No one also talked about my marriage with Jayren because he's in the U.S. again and I'm overly busy with my job.

It was one of the rare times I see him around because his schedule is hectic too.

"No inspections today?" tanong ko sa kaniya pagkapasok namin ng elevator. He pressed the button for him and asked me for mine.

"Mamayang tanghali. I have meeting this morning."

"Alright, good luck. I have meeting too. Skyway project.

He eyed me. "You're one too?"

"Oh, so you're part na din? Who are you under? Engineer Fonacier?"

"Yeah."

Engineer Fonacier is our senior engineer. He heads most of Silveria's biggest projects. While Hiro, Jayden, and some of us are still new to the company, we're guided by our seniors when taking part in these projects.
