I wake up to my alarm. Today is the first day of the last week of school. My exams are done so I don't actually have to go too school. It's just my only escape.
I get up, get dressed in ń black skinny jean, a off white baggy T-shirt and black boots. I tie my hair in a messy bun and walk off to the kitchen.
I start the oatmeal for each child and scroll through my phone as it prepares on the stove.
I have a part time job so I can buy my own things. I saved up for my phone for about a year and a half.
I make ma'am's coffee and take it up to her with her breakfast. She gets the same meals as us, but she gets coffee with hers. We're not allowed any coffee because we're to young.
I go around and knock on every door to wake up all the children. I set down their bowls on the dining hall tables and wait for them to start piling in.
We start eating and everyone is excited for the last week of school. I go to my room and pack my backpack for school.
When I am done I go back to clean up the kitchen and walk to school.
The smaller children gets taken to school by a bus but the older kids has to walk.
I walk in perfect silence. Looking up at the sky. It's a blue grayish color. It smells like rain.
Suddenly a black van rushes past me and splashes mud agaisnt me. Really?! My off white shirt is a whole different color now. I can't go back to my room, I'll be late for school. I'll just have to live with mud on me for the rest of the day.
I arrive at school and everyone looks at me. Some people laugh, others just stare. I open my locker and a note falls out.
I pick the note up from the floor and open it.
Veronica Herondale
Pack your bags sweetheart. You're coming home.
See you later

What? Home? I don't know from who this is. It's probably some kind of sick joke the jocks pulled.
I leave the note in my locker and go to my first class. English Literature. It's my favorite subject. I love writing and reading.
The school day went on as normal. I went to lunch, sat by myself, went to the rest of my classes and finished my homework so I don't have anything to do when I get back to the orphanage.
Usually I help the little ones with their homework. I really like bonding with them.
The school bell rings, indicating the end of the school day. I pk up my books and walk to my locker. The note has been bothering me all day. I know it's just a joke, but I can't stop thinking about the damn thing.
I walk out the school door with the note in my hand. The mud on my clothes has turned hard and I just want to get to my room so I can change.
I turn the corner of the orphanage and the same black van that rushed past me this morning is standing in front of the door.
