Our peaceful slumber was interrupted by frantic knocks at the door. Asher is the first to react, quickly getting up and throwing a pair of sweatpants. He opens the night table's drawer and pulls out a pistol.
"Stay here," His words are strict and left no room for arguing, but I sure as hell was not going to go out there. He left the bedroom and closed the door. I quickly found my leggings and underwear on the floor. I remember that my sweater is on the floor by the door, so I quickly search through his closet to find a hoodie. I put the hoodie on and go back to stand in front of the bed.
I hear a lot of rummaging and yelling outside the door, but no gunshots. The door bursts open to reveal Cam rushing inside the bedroom. He runs over to me and grabs my hand, pulling me with him.
"Cam? What the fuck?" He yanks me with him out of the bedroom and towards the front door.
"We've gotta go. Nat's been shot." The exasperation is clear in his voice.
"What? How?! Is she okay?"
"I don't know if she's okay. One of your boyfriend's men shot him. I'm getting you the fuck out of here." He spits out the word 'boyfriend' with spite. He's opening the front door now and leading me to the elevator. Asher comes running out after us.
"Ash, what the hell is talking about? Your men shot Nat?" I yell at him. Cam yanks both of us into the elevator, not even glancing at Asher.
"No, they didn't! They haven't been ordered to shoot anyone, not since Smith shot Cam!" He's rushing towards the elevator and gets in before the doors can close.
"This all your fucking fault, and just wait until William finds out about this," Cam yells at Asher.
"Hears about what, Cam?" I speak up.
"When he hears about how the Cobra is still talking to his daughter. Not only talking but in a whole fucking relationship!"
"Cam, we've been over this, he's innocent!" I plead with him.
"He doesn't look so innocent now. Not when he's in charge of getting my fucking girlfriend shot."
"I didn't do anything!" Asher yells, getting angry. He tries to grab my hand, but Cam steps in front of me and pushes me back behind him.
"It sure as hell doesn't look like you killed Ty, but it's easy for evidence to be fabricated. And now one of your guys shot Nat." His voice breaks at the end and I can tell how difficult this is for him. "Nat's innocent in all of this, I don't understand why you'd get her involved."
"She's gonna be okay, Cam. She's a fighter, I know that for sure." I reassure him.
"We didn't shoot anyone, Cameron. No orders have been given and my guys always ask me before doing shit like this." Asher fights back at Cam.
The elevator door dings and Cam rushes out, pulling me with him. Asher comes running after us, shouting about how Cam needs to let me go and how his guys didn't do anything.
Cam rushes us into the car and I mouth to Asher that I'll call him later. I don't know if he knows what I said, but I do recognize a look of betrayal and hurt on his face.
The car starts and we're driving away, leaving Asher behind us. I see his face stay in the same melancholy expression until he's out of sight.
"What the fuck was that? Ash didn't tell anyone to shoot anyone! He was with me all night." I explicate.
"You're so sure that you know everything about him? Who else would fucking be behind Nat being shot? Who else would kill Ty? There's no one else besides his fucking gang!"
