TW: domestic abuse& violence
trying to love you was like swimming with my eyes open,
i couldn't see where we were going,
but i continued to keep swimming in the ocean,
because i really wanted us to work.and although the rocks below me pierced my feet,
like your cruel words that pierced my heart.
i still kept going.although the salty water burnt my eyes,
like your violence burnt my soul,
i still kept going.and although the force of the waves hit me,
the same way your palms did,
i still kept going.even when the tide tried to pull me back,
to control me the way you did,
i still kept going.but we never got what we wanted,
or was it just what i wanted,
because in the end,
i drowned trying to love you,
and you just let me.interpretation: this poem is about domestic violence in relationships and comparing abuse to the ocean in a not so beautiful way. Red represents the red flags and danger, while tide represents the power of the tide as in the power someone's partner has over them. this is one of my favourites so i hope you enjoy it:)
