I run into Jessie in the hallway after Jessie's 3rd period English class, fighting my already frizzy hair into a ponytail.
"Why do you look so happy?" I ask.
"Oh, Rebecca Pittman just smacked Dustin Martinez up the back of his head with a five subject notebook."
"That obnoxious cornerback who keeps trying to peg us mid-stunt with footballs during practice?"
"That's him," Jessie confirms as Jamie joins us. "Hi, Jamie," she says awkwardly.
"Hi," Jamie returns, just as awkwardly. Progress at least.
"I don't know this Rebecca Pittman, but I love her already." I grin.
"She goes to Youth Group with me...so I guess that means she goes to ROCK with all of us now," Jessie offers. "I've got Color Guard. See you guys later."
Jamie and I walk down a side hallway to the cafeteria for the first lunch, and Jessie continues to battle through the senior hallway to the gym for Color Guard practice.
