"You will not believe what happened after school," Danny says, his hand absently caressing my side as we snuggle on my bed.
"What?"
"Carl came out a side door. I think he was avoiding you girls. I was standing out there with your brother, getting ready for practice. I was going to just let the bastard keep walking, but your brother is every bit as strong as you are and he decided enough was enough."
I bury my head in Danny's shoulder, his soft polo against my face. "I can only guess," I say, softly kissing his jawline.
"So, your brother calls the rat bastard over to us, and I dropped my bat bag in case I needed my hands. Carl tells us 'I'm not dating that ugly bitch anymore, so what do you want?' And that's a direct quotation."
I squeeze my right hand into a fist. Danny kisses the top of my head. "Yeah, well, your brother liked it even less than I did. He grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pushed him into the side of the building. Felix has been working out, so he can really slam. For a moment I was a little worried for my own safety, and I was on your brother's side."
"He's a little terrifying when he's pissed," I supply. Danny nods, his hand caressing my side again. The skin feels like fire as his fingers brush it.
"So Felix shoves Carl even harder and tells him 'if you so much as look at any of those girls again, or any other girls in the tri-county area, Danny and I will personally kick your ass. You're extremely lucky that Rebecca doesn't want to press charges for you attempting to get her drunk and sleep with her. Do you understand me?'"
"Will you help him kick Carl's ass?"
Danny meets my eye. "If he comes near you, or any of you girls, I will personally kick his ass with or without Felix's help." He kisses me quickly and then continues. "So, Carl gets this furious look and tells Felix to get off of him, and that we had nothing on him. And then Carl's dumb ass tries to shove Felix."
I cover my head with my hands. If Carl managed to shove my brother, I suspect Felix is suspended for fighting. "Oh, no."
"Don't worry. I got Felix by the shoulder and told him to let Carl go, that he wasn't worth it. But man, did I want to smack the peñdejo myself with a baseball bat. Instead I stuck out a foot and tripped him."
I grin. Danny is so kind and so good, but he definitely has a strict moral code. "What happened then?"
Danny gets a little self-satisfied smile. "I said to Felix 'gravity is a bitch' and then we walked to practice. Carl got up but limped away." He is quiet for a moment, his fingers drawing small circles on my side and back.
"Do you think Jamie had sex with Carl?" Danny asks me a moment later. "Felix asked me what I thought and I told him I had no idea. I want to know what you think." My heart thumps a little harder. I know the truth of the matter, but that truth is not mine to share.
"I don't know," I answer. "I don't need to know to know that Carl's creepy ass tried to drug Rebecca to convince her to sleep with him, so I definitely think Carl tried to get Jamie to."
Danny sighs and stared up at the ceiling. "Man, we're fifteen. We're too young to be dealing with this shit." He is quiet for a moment and then rolls to look me in the eye. "I want you. Please, never think I don't. But neither of us is stupid, and we're just not ready."
I kiss him as hard as I can and then pull away. "I want you too, but you're right...we're just not ready."
"I love you," Danny whispers, kissing me. I roll on my back and he partially covers my torso with his, kisses intense and wandering down my neck. I moan softly and let myself become lost in his kisses which are, for now, beautifully enough.
