Evangeline and Thor crept out of the castle late the next days night.
He had arranged two horses for them, Evangeline mounted her horse, as Thor did his.
They rode down the bifrost, they met Hemdial. He opened the gate to Ronanlia. " Are you prepared to do this?" Thor asked as he looked at her.
" It's my brother out there Thor. I would do this a million times over for him."
Thor grasped her hand as they set foot in the portal.
Thunder and lightning cracked as they landed, their horses soon followed.
Evangeline remounted her brown mare.
Thor got on his dark stallion and they began down the wasteland of Ronanlia.
The stench of death and putrid flesh was enough to make her want to lose her supper.
Crows and buzzards perched on the blackened trees, as the wind howled. The dead limbs cracked as the hooves of the horses crunched them.
Evangeline stroked her horse's neck as she let out an uneasy neigh.
Thor narrowed his eyebrows. " This place, is the home of Shades yes?"
Evangeline nodded. " Dead, wandering souls of men. Damned to this realm, exiled from Hell and Valhalla."
She could she him try not to shudder.
" It's alright to be afraid of them. You would be a fool not to."
Her mare pulled to a halt.
The stone castle was falling apart, vines traveled along the walls, they had long since died however, and the wooden doors were blackened with rot.
But the doors opened with a protesting groan. Her horse jumped slightly, but she urged her forwards.
Thor followed her from the rear. The pair jumped slightly as the kingdom's doors slammed shut. Evangeline closed her eyes and breathed a sigh.
She steadied her heart beat, and followed the winding cobblestone corridors.
Two shades guarded a pair of doors.
" Who wishes to pass?" The shade's voice was a low hiss.
Evangeline cleared her throat.
" I, Evangeline daughter of Gypsy Thrain. And my companion, Thor Son of Odin."
A gruesome grin stretched on the dead man's lips.
"Come, we have been expecting you, Gypsy."
The wide doors were opened and the pair of Shades dressed in black robes led them forwards.
Torches began to illuminate as the Shades walked past, the fire was blue.
Evangeline's mare was throwing her head around making noise. Thor's horse was doing the same.
She looked into her friend's blue eyes, they gave her a reassuring look.
Terror built in her stomach like a lead ball, she tried not to think of the horrors that most likely lay before her.
The ghostly figures led them to a giant open room.
In the open room was a giant throne.
It appeared to be made of millions of swords, all melted together.
A sound as revolting as nails on a chalk board began.
"Hello, child. Last time I saw you, I was covered in your family's blood."
