Chapter 10: birthday

Luz leans back in her seat.

"Today's oddly boring. Yesterday we fought the Golden Guard and now we're just sitting around!" Luz groans.

You continue reading your book. "Yeah, today's a pretty boring birthday. Not the most boring I've had but boring." You say, not looking up.

"Yeah- wait what? Birthday? You? Huh?" Luz takes the book from you and places both hands on your shoulders.

"You should go for a walk. I know how much you like those. Take some time to enjoy yourself." She smiles.

You raise an eyebrow but agree and head off.

"Hoot hoot! Hiya Y/n!" Hooty says as you leave.

"Hey hooty." You wave as you walk off.

Luz is obviously planning something.

Maybe it will be nice though! I mean, you've never spent a birthday with friends. It's probably a nice change.

"Hi~" you're snapped out of your thoughts by Hunter behind you.

You turn around and glare at him.

"What."

"Hey, don't be so mean. Cant I just say Happy birthday?" He asks, taking off his mask.

"How did you know today was my birthday..?" You ask.

"I may have looked it up while you were in the coven still. I had been planning a surprise for you but I guess you were too good for it." He humphs, crossing his arms and turning away.

You chuckle and he smiles a bit.

"But uh, seriously. Happy Birthday Y/n. I cant believe you're older than me." He chuckles.

You continue walking, now with him by your side.

"It's a bit shocking to me too. When I first heard about you I assumed you were at least 20." You say.

Hunters chuckles turn to full on laughs at that. "20? Seriously? Did you never hear the whole genius teen prodigy thing?" He asks.

"I said when I first heard about you! Of course I eventually realized!" You laugh.

The laughter dies down as the two of you look at each other.

Your face goes a bit red and both of you look away.

"So where are you walking?" Hunter asks.

"Not sure. Luz is probably setting up a 'surprise' party right now so I'm just out indefinitely." You shrug.

Hunter swiftly steps in front of you, grabbing your hands and smirking.

"Perfect." He lets go of one hand and runs off, leading you somewhere.

"Wh- hey! Where are you taking me?" You yell, attempting to break free of his grasp.

"You'll see~!"

You raise an eyebrow as he leads you through some bushes.

"If I'm about to get murdered, tell Luz to bury me with Good Witch Azura, I haven't finished it yet." You say.

Suddenly you step though the final bush and your eyes widen.

You're in a calm, closed off area. There's a small river with a dock leading to it.

Hunter stands by the dock.

"I was wondering if we could just put our weird rivalry thing away. Just for a day? Pretend it never happened?" Hunter smiles awkwardly.
