"Why are you mad at Ron?" Ursa asks.

"He ruined the ball for me." Hermione says. "He seems to think Viktor is using me to get to Harry."

"Why would he be doing that?"

"Cause of what Karkaroff was- I mean to solve the egg." Ursa stops walking. She looks around and pulls Hermione into a closet.

"What do you mean, what Karkaroff was?"

     "I don't think I should tell you."

"Hermione, do you know Karkaroff's past?"

     "I have no idea-"

"Hermione do you know Karkaroff was a follower of You-Know-Who?"

     "... yes."

"Harry also suspects your parents of being followers." Ursa leaves without another word.

"What is that Sacred Twenty something you were talking about at the ball?" Ron asks while they sit in the library. Hermione and Ursa look across the table at him in confusion.

"It's the Sacred Twenty-Eight." Ursa says. "You are a part of it. How do you have no idea what it is?"

     "I am?" Ron asks.

"Yes you are." Hermione says. "The Sacred Twenty-Eight are the 28 families that were considered pureblood by some person in the 1930s."

"It's thought to be one of Nott's ancestors." Ursa says. "It Is not a complete list, since it was a matter of opinion. Like Crabbe and Goyle are not on it. If a family was thought to have any Muggle ancestry, supported Muggles, or probably if the author did not like them, then they were not a part of it. You probably would have been a part of it Potter but the Potter patriarch of that time supported Muggles and Potter is a common Muggle name."

"Why am I a part of it?" Ron asks.

"Because both the Weasley and Prewett families are on it."

"How do you know my mum's a Prewett?"

"I had to learn the names of the Sacred Twenty-Eight families and the adults that were alive. The list is where the term "blood-traitor" came from. Those who were outspoken against being on the list or said they had Muggle ancestry and were proud of it, like the Weasley's, were blood-traitors. The whole thing is a stupid thing to try and make purebloods seem better. My family is quite proud to be on it. Ignoring the fact we have half-bloods on our tree."

      "You do?" Hermione asks surprised.

"We haven't for a few generations but yeah. My father's line is still pure. The half-bloods are 'proper' half-bloods. Ones that are ashamed of their Muggle ancestry and attempt to hide it and there are at least two generations between them and the last Muggle in their tree. There are a few half-bloods my family considers 'proper' despite having recent Muggle ancestry.

     "Like who?" Harry asks.

     "That would betray their trust."

"So you know what families are on it? Like off the top of your head?"

"Abbott, Avery, Black, Bulstrode, Carrow, Crouch, Fawley, Flint, Gaunt, Greengrass, Lestrange, Longbottom, Macmillan, Malfoy, Nott, Ollivander, Parkinson, Prewett, Rosier, Rowle, Selwyn, Shacklebolt, Shafiq, Slughorn, Travers, Weasley, and Yaxley."

"Bloody hell." Ron says in awe. "That's cool. Also a lot of those were Slytherins weren't they?"

"At least 16 of them. A few are no longer pure or extinct."
