Chapter 9 - My savior is here.

(Steve POV)

It's been two weeks and four days, since I was in the same room as Aspen at the party. She has been taking her meals at the mess hall. She even asked Vision to do training with her in the afternoon so I don't see her. I've been completely on edge. Bucky hasn't been doing any better.

We both know we messed up big time. We've been trying to catch her to apologize, but she just leaves the room every time. I can catch her looking at me for a second before she does. It kills everything in me not talking to her. Tony and Natasha have begun to ask us to give her time and leave her be. Of course I'll do that. Whatever she needs I'll do. I just hope I get her back soon, I don't think I can go on like this.

There are times I go to the living room or the kitchen and I smell her sweet perfume of honey and cherry blossoms lingering in the air. She's always smelled like spring and summer. God I miss her so much.

I've asked to take on more missions to keep my mind occupied. Bucky has agreed to do the same. We've decided to hang out more with each other to strengthen our friendship, so he's become my new mission partner. We, after all, were falling for the same person, that causes rifts.

"Do you think she'll ever talk to us again?" Bucky asked checking his weapons.

I stand up in the Quinjet and pull up the hologram projector to review the mission points one last time. "I don't know Buck, at this point, it might be a good idea to get over her." Even though I know I can't. I just say it to help him. I don't think he's as far gone in love with her as I am, so whatever I can say to help him I will.

"Yea..." He clicks the magazine into his gun and puts it in his holster. "So this mission...Hydra?" 

"Yea, we got some intel on Madam Hydra, we're to check it out and capture any Hydra agents we bump into, nothing big." I check my pistol and put it in my holster.

"Does she know?" I look at Buck, he's looking at the floor, still concerned for her.

"No, Tony and Fury want this kept classified." He nods for a second.

The pilot lands us on a roof. I take out my shield and Bucky takes out a gun that was attached to his back. It takes us a few hours to search the building but we do it. I was expecting more people but it was fairly empty, just a few agents here and there.

When we are done we have captured four agents. Bucky almost killed one when they called him Winter Soldier. He's staring the guy down now mad I didn't let him do it. But I know Buck, it will eat him up in his nightmares if I had let him. And without Aspen to calm him down it'll tare him apart.

We get back by midday and walk the prisoners to the detention center under the compound. While we wait for the elevator, Aspen walks out of the security office with an agent. She was wearing black tight leather pants and a light blue button down top that loosely fit her and fell over her hips softly, her lab coat still on, I swear she could sleep in that thing. Her hair was pulled up in a ponytail like always, she liked keeping her hair out of the way when she worked at the lab, her glasses were on and her lips were glossed, making me wish I could taste them. She was showing him something on the tablet. She gave him the tablet and he saluted her. She put his hand down with a giggled, a sound I had missed so much. She was so damn pretty my eyes couldn't leave her. It took Buck kicking me when the elevator doors opened to take my attention away.

"She looks good." He says not looking at me. As soon as the doors close.

"Yea....yea she does..." I had to shake my head off of her when the doors opened revealing the detention center. We separate the agents and interview them one at a time. We get nothing other than the usual 'Hail Hydra' retort... We put them into cells and leave them for SHIELD and Fury to handle. This mission was a bust..no information that was valid was found about Madame Hydra. Just some low level stuff that wouldn't help us at all.
