I waited for him to say something. Anything. He had started but then froze.
"Bucky.."
"Aspen, I..I care for you. I always have, but I saw what you being taken did to Steve. He loves you so much. I'm sorry but nothing can ever happen between us. So forget that dance." He didn't seem sad, or angry. He had accepted this reality.
"I don't remember loving him."
"You will, and when you do, I don't want you feeling guilty for trying with me, so we won't." I looked at his light blue eyes, they were sincere and caring. I smile softly and nod. The friendship they have must be strong. I appreciated it. It was something I wasn't used to, at least from what I remembered.
"Aspen" Candice called me from the door. I saw her eyes flicker to Bucky for a second then back to me. I looked at him, he was blushing. I see.
"Let's go to my room sis, thanks Steve" I got up on tiptoe and kissed his cheek. If Bucky was working on moving on and helping me remember Steve I had to take steps myself. Steve's breath hitched and a soft blush covered his face. I smiled at him before grabbing my sister and walking to my room.
"Snakes?" She saw the door decoration I sighed.
"Yea..Dad can be an ass sometimes" I laugh remembering the nicknames he would give me before he settled on puppet. We walked into the room and saw a twin sized bed was added to the room. Some bags of clothes were sitting on top of it. "I think those are yours" I pointed out to Candice. Her eyes widened.
"I've never gotten a gift before" I smiled at her innocent excitement. I knew they were from Natasha...leather clothes. I shake my head looking around the room. It was exactly how I left it, just cleaned up. A picture on the vanity caught my attention. It was of me and Steve. I was laughing with the lights of the fireworks shining on my face. He was just watching me. Was that admiration or love. My chest tightened. Tears fell from my eyes. I didn't understand why, I couldn't even remember that night, it looked like we enjoyed ourselves. I quickly wiped them to avoid Candice noticing. "I'm going to go change, can you believe I have leather pants?" She squealed before going to the bathroom.
Hopefully the rest of my sisters will be just as happy. When Candice walked out she had on tight leather pants, a bright red halter top, and black leather biker jacket. It was not what she would normally wear but she loved it so much. I guess it was her style. "You look beautiful..and dangerous." Her short pixie cut hair matched her clothes perfectly making her look like a bad ass. Natasha has competition in that department now.
"Thanks. Can I see your clothes?" I nod pointing at the closet. I dig into the drawers looking for something comfortable. I was tired after all. I grab a light blue knitted sweater and some leggings. After I change I watch Candice go crazy over my shoes. We, thankfully had the same size, so we will be sharing. "Do you think the others will come around?" She asks not looking at me.
"Yea, at least Sarah will. Maria I think will be the hardest one" She nods softly. I could see a tear drop. I place my hand on her back to comfort her when the building goes into full shut down. The windows get covered in metal walls and FRIDAY blares out.
"BREAKOUT IN CELL 6. BREAKOUT IN CELL 6" I stare at Candice scared shit-less.
"Maria" We both say rushing out the room. We push past agents taking the stairs to avoid the wait.
"You two should be somewhere safe" Steve ordered us when we get near him on the stairs, he was holding his shield and skipping down several steps at a time.
"Yea, Candice you need stay back" Bucky states then clears his throat "Um you too Aspen" I smirked watching my sister blush. They liked each other. I wonder what happened during the fight to get them there so fast.
