Joffrey had made his grandfather His Hand.Cersei whispered something in Joffrey's ear.He nodded "Forgive me Lord Baelish, I forgot completely.Stand before your King, please".Lord Baelish smirked. He sauntered down the steps and stood before Joffrey."Lord Petyr Baelish, step forward. For your good service and ingenuity in uniting the Houses of Lannister and Tyrell, I declare you shall be granted the castle of Harrenhal with all its attendant lands and incomes to be held by your sons and grandsons from this day until the end of time.".Littlefinger had the biggest smirk on his face "You honor me beyond words, Your Grace.I shall have to acquire some sons and grandsons".He took a bow and then rose.He peeped up at Joffrey "Pardon me, Your Grace but what good are these lands you have bestowed upon me when there will be no one to pass them on to?".I never thought I'd see the day.An owner of a brothel becoming a lord and of Harrenhal no less, Eve thought.Joffrey chuckled "You are quite right, Lord Baelish. We will wed you to a woman of a noble house and she will give you an heir".Lord Baelish bowed and then sauntered over to the side.No man in his right mind would wed their daughter to a man like Littlefinger. He'd take his wife's life, if it served his ends.
Joffrey and the Queen were discussing something. They spoke so quietly, hardly anybody could hear them. The King looked at Eve and Sansa "What is to be done with the Stark girls?" said Joffrey as he drummed his fingers impatiently."My mother shall decide the matter".She stood up "Sansa" said Cersei, almost shouting.Sansa rose from her seat."Yes, my Queen?" said Sansa, her voice slightly above a whisper."I have decided...Well actually my father Tywin Lannister has decided that you are not to wed Joffrey" the words cut through her like a dagger "We shall decide in the coming days who you are to wed".Sansa was shocked to the core. She thought Joffrey had loved her.Eve was shocked as well, losing all hope of ever being pardoned. She was scared for herself but she began to worry about Sansa too.Her little sister looked at the ground, tears streaming down her face. She dared not speak. She ought to be lucky the Queen Regent was merciful enough not to order the Mountain to do away with her and Eve.Sansa sat back down.Cersei looked at Eve "As for you Eve, you are to wed" she paused for a moment "..Lord Petyr Baelish".Eve's heart fell to her stomach. She stood in disbelief. How? How could this be happening? I must have misheard Cersei.Surely.Eve mustered the courage to speak up "Pardon me your Grace.I am not sure I heard you correctly.Who am I to wed?" The court roared with laughter.Cersei smiled at the girl mockingly "Eve Stark. You are to wed Lord Petyr Baelish" yelled the Queen.Eve felt nauseous. She felt her stomach turning. She looked around.Lord Baelish smirked at her.Cersei did not care a fig about the state Eve might be in, not even giving her time to digest this piece of information. The fact that she was going to have to marry Littlefinger was impossible for her to stomach."It is high time Lord Baelish took a wife. And who better than you, Eve Stark?" Cersei sat down, her legs crossed "The daughter of a traitor like Ned you may be.You do however have noble blood coursing through your veins. You Starks are descendants of the First Men, I am told".
Eve stared at the ground, her cheeks aflame."If you believe we are so noble, Your Grace then why can't Sansa wed Joffrey. They are a suitable match." said Eve, defiantly."And who better for Joffrey than Sansa?".There was nobody Eve hated more than she did Joffrey. She wished for Sansa to marry him so she could ruin him.Her sister gasped, throwing her a concerned look. The Council stared at her.The Queen said nothing. What could she say? Eve had a point."Your father did not betray Lord Baelish. He betrayed my son Joffrey-The King of the Realm" the Queen retorted "There is a difference".Littlefinger looked Eve up and down, his stare lingering for a brief moment."You are now betrothed to Lord Baelish, do you hear me?".Eve never felt as powerless, as vulnerable as she did in that very moment. She could do nothing to avoid this.Lord Baelish did not object once.He seemed to be content with the arrangement. Why would he protest? He was going to marry the daughter of a high lord who had the blood of the First Men coursing through her veins.
Eve stood before the Queen, not leaving the Throne Room."You are terribly slow.Aren't you going to return to your chambers?" The Queen chuckled, almost snorting "Oh the girl must want to know when she is to be wed. That impatient, are you?" The miserable Eve balled her hands into fists, her nails digging deep into the palms of her hands."Your wedding will be in a week, Eve.I would have married you off to Lord Baelish here on the morrow, but it is his wish that you be wed with dignity and in a beautiful wedding gown".The Queen shot her a wide mocking smile "You would like that, wouldn't you?".There is nothing Eve could have hated more than to be wed to a man as cunning as Littlefinger. There was nothing to be done at this point, Eve admitted defeatedly. She longer felt like the daughter of Ned Stark, nor the daughter of Catelyn Tully.
