"How has my brother been to you, Eve?" Cersei said to Eve, who looked around the room momentarily before answering."He has been as a husband should, Your Grace".At that, the Queen Regent raised an eyebrow. She stalked towards Eve, and then leaned against the wall.
"And how should a husband be, dear Eve?" she said, mockingly."How a husband ought to be, Your Grace".Eve looked at her hands on her lap, deciding not to look at her for she could not hold her dagger-like gaze as she once could."My brother is a former member of the Kingsguard!.The man who slayed The Mad King by putting a sword through his back. How has he been gentle with you?.He should have ruined you!.He should have ravaged you!". I perhaps should have lied to her. "Your Grace.I apologize.Do forgive me.I thought you meant to ask how he was with me generally. He does not say much, which I do not mind.He does not shout insults at me, like most men who are forced into a marriage but I get hurt during the couplings, Your Grace. Is that normal?". Eve believed the lies she would feed Cersei about Jaime would convince her that he still wanted Cersei and not his wife. There was then a wide grin on Cersei's face, which Eve could not decipher was because she was going to do something extremely wicked or because she was satisfied with Eve's answer.
"Well, it is the fate of all noble women or most noble women at least. You are no different, and you must suffer for what your father has done, for what your mother has done, for what your brother has done, and for what your sister has done".Eve's stomach sunk deeper with each family members of hers that Cersei had mentioned."And my brother even though he is of no use as he once was, Tommen shall need him by his side". You mean you shall need him by your side?. "As you say, Your Grace, but it was Ser Jaime who said that we were to leave in two days' time.I do not have a problem staying here".Cersei scoffed."You can go, Eve, but Jaime is to remain here. You will be at Casterly Rock all by yourself". Damn you, Cersei. "Whatever you say, Your Grace" she rose from her seat "if that is all, I shall retire to my chambers".The Queen Regent waved her hand dismissively as though Eve were a chambermaid that had just finished doing her hair.
It was late at night when Jaime returned from several meetings with his father.Eve had been sitting in front of her dresser, noticing just how tired she looked. She wished she had looked even a bit like Catelyn Tully. She had more of the Stark than the Tully look, with long brown hair and a slightly long face.Though she was pretty, she could hardly rival the beauty of Cersei or any other Southorn lady for that matter. She waited for him to say something, but when she looked in the mirror, she saw the scowl upon Jaime's face. What have I done this time?. "Is something the matter, my lord?".He walked towards her, every footstep of his making her ever the more nervous. He gripped the sides of the chair in which Eve was sitting before the mirror."Cersei says you told her I mistreated you.Why would you say that?". Oh no. "M-my lord, I told her you are as a husband ought to be.My good sister must have misunderstood.Surely".He eyed her suspiciously. She looked back at him."Believe me, my lord, why would I say something like that when you are gentle with me?.And you are aware that what the two of us did was out of duty and for Lord Tyrion".He touched her shoulder."Get up".She looked at him, confused."Get up.Don't make me repeat himself" he demanded. She faced him, staring at him, dumbfounded. He had been so close to her, she could feel his breath on her face."How stupid do you think I am?" he said, the anger on his face evident."My lord.I don't quite follow—".He held her shoulders, bringing him even closer to him.Jaime began to whisper in her ear, enunciating every word."Listen.To.Me.Cersei wouldn't lie about a thing like that".Her eyes grew wide."My lord. Why would I lie about a thing like that?". I do of course have good reason. It is to make you go back to Cersei and leave me alone. And it is to keep Cersei from intervening in our marriage. He stared at her again this time." I don't know. You're a Stark.Everybody knows you don't like us, so I reckon this is something you would say to her".
"And you're a Lannister" she spat back at him."Let go of me, my lord. You're hurting me".He had that sharp, playful smirk on his face again."And what if I don't, just what will you do, Eve?". I do not know what comes over this man from time to time. He is unpredictable. "Let.Go.Of.Me" Eve said, enunciating every word until Jaime's hands did leave her shoulders."My lord, I am sure we can grow to love one another. To be good parents to the child that will be in my womb.If the Gods will it, of course" Eve said, walking away from him and towards the window.
"Know that I would never say something like that about you, and I may have..disagreements with your family but I often remind myself of my duties as a married wife and the words of my mother's words spring to mind; Family, Duty, Honor.I am your wife, and I cannot shirk my duties". Jaime's lips parted as though he were about to say something, but chose to remain silent and listen to his lady wife instead."I am not saying the Queen would lie about me saying that.Only that she must have misunderstood".Jaime, then, walked towards Eve and wrapped his arms around her, catching her by surprise."I believe you, Eve" he said, his mouth dangerously close to her neck.Eve's eyes grew wide."Thank you, my lord" she replied, trying to squirm out of his embrace."My lord".He slightly leaned his head forward, staring at her, his embrace growing tighter."Jaime.Call me Jaime".She turned her head to be able to look at them. Oh my God. If he wasn't Tywin's son, I might have learned to love him. The man is as handsome as he is said to be in the ballads that were once sung about him, but that does not matter to me. This man had once tried to kill my father, he killed Jory. Eve feigned a smile as he continued to stare at her, his eyes flickering back and forth. Jaime lifted her chin, so that she would look at him. Her green eyes met his blue ones. "You are a pretty thing, aren't you?" he said, a wide smirk gracing his face. Does he actually like me?. "Why, thank you, my lord".His large hands seized her waist."Get on the bed".
