Sitting at his desk, a fresh sheet of paper in front of him, Johnny Lawrence reached over and picked up a pen; he began to write a letter... to his now former rival, Daniel LaRusso.
Daniel,
I want to apologize for all those things I did to you when we were in high school. It was wrong, and you didn't deserve it. Also, Ali had moved on, and I should've respected her decision. I was in a bad place, and I made bad decisions as a result.
But you won the first place trophy in the All-Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament back in 1984 fair and square, and as I said, you played a good match.
And as for your sensei Mr. Miyagi, he sure was kind of neat, what with how he took down our former sensei Kreese in the parking lot after the tournament and saved my life when Kreese got me in that chokehold. Also, I can see my friends — Bobby Brown, Jimmy and Tommy — wishing they'd had him for a karate teacher instead of Kreese. Just so you know, Bobby, Jimmy and Tommy are also former Cobras now. (I say "former Cobras" because, as Bobby recalled, he, Tommy, Jimmy and I, along with Dutch, abandoned Kreese while deciding to leave Cobra Kai for good after that fateful night in the parking lot.)
Had we thought it over, we would've realized what we'd been doing to you and saw Kreese for what he really was, while also leaving Cobra Kai earlier. And we would've nicely asked Mr. Miyagi to teach us karate, because unlike Kreese, Mr. Miyagi never would've yelled at us while we did those chores, or made us do fifty pushups on our knuckles either; he knew karate is usually for self-defense, and not for intimidating or bullying others.
Also, thank goodness, Mr. Miyagi would've been a much better sensei for us in the art of karate, and I can see him giving us some good nuggets of wisdom for us to keep in mind, such as "For person with no forgiveness in heart, living even worse punishment than death" and "No such thing as bad student, only bad teacher," for example.
I look back now, and I feel bad that I didn't see Kreese for what he was then, and I also feel regretful for not swallowing my pride and leaving the Cobra Kai dojo when I had the chance.
Please forgive me, Daniel.
