Sam and Tory smiled nervously at an amused Daniel and Amanda.

"We once met a young lady out at a restaurant," Sam began by way of explanation. "Her name was Jackie Brennan."

Tory then spoke up. "As she explained to us, she was there to meet a guy, but apparently someone — possibly her so-called 'date', but we weren't exactly sure — thought it would be funny to ask her out, and then simply not show up just to see how long she'd sit there, waiting for him. He didn't even answer any of her texts." She shook her head. "The nerve of him."

"Ouch," Daniel remarked. "Harsh."

"I agree, Daniel," Amanda nodded sagely. "That kind of 'prank' isn't really funny at all. It's pretty darn hurtful, if you ask me."

"Pretty darn hurtful is right," Daniel stated. He then turned to Sam and Tory, his eyes full of sadness. "I apologize for the interruption."

"No, Dad. It's all right. Sometimes you have to interrupt," Sam replied, shooting an assuring smile at her father, and he gave her a grateful smile in return.

"Thanks, Sam." He then turned to Tory. "You were saying?"

"Ah, yes. Of course," Tory nodded. "Jackie was at the restaurant alone; she was about to leave, but then decided to stay where she was. Sam and I soon walked over to her, and we started talking. We ended up chatting for an hour, and we had an absolute ball."

Now it was Sam's turn to agree. "Basically, Tory and I learned a good lesson from what had happened with Jackie. If a person realizes they've been stood up, it's best they brush themselves off and have their favorite drink at the bar-slash-restaurant, as well as go for a nice chat with a cute girl or good-looking guy while they're at it." She shrugged in a casual manner. "You never know."
