As soon as I stepped into the front yard of my house, a smile then crossed my face. Apparently Eli must've been sitting on the porch waiting for me, because he looked up and smiled when he saw me. Getting to his feet, he held out his arms, and I ran to him before making the leap into his arms. Luckily, he managed to catch me quite easily before setting me down gently.
When Eli and I went inside, Demetri was standing in the kitchen next to the island. Seeing me, he smiled and held out his arms in a similar manner to Eli, and I ran over to him and hugged him. Eli, Demetri and I then walked over to the couch in the living room.
All we'd gone through together had drawn the three of us quite closely to each other, and I would sometimes wonder what my girlhood would've been like if it had been spent under their guardianship instead of that of Jack Mayo (except it would've been in spirit and not by blood). The sisterly affection I never gave my own brother I gave to them, and with the firm holds over themselves that they'd never again slackened, Demetri and Eli accepted the role of elder brothers, which I'd unconsciously imposed on them.
But I digress.
Eli and Demetri sat on the couch, and I fell backwards across their laps, which they took in stride, not minding a bit. Smiling, they began stroking my hair while listening to my tale of everything that happened some time ago — beginning with how I arrived at the dojo late (instead of early to get some pre-training practice in), told the Cobras I was quitting and called them out over what they did to Eli, before finishing with how I put the Cobra Kai uniform down on the floor and finally left the Cobra Kai Dojo for good.
I turned to Demetri. "The instant I did that and began walking home, I realized Eli made the right decision when he switched sides and betrayed Cobra Kai during the LaRusso house fight back in December. So, I decided to focus on myself, and do the things I loved to do before that darn Cobra Kai dojo came into my life and almost messed it up."
Both Binary Brothers wisely nodded in agreement; they knew what I said was true.
"Speaking of which," I remarked, while turning to Eli, "in a way, my quitting Cobra Kai for good was how I paid them back for forcibly shaving off your Mohawk. I felt they'd not only gone too far when they attacked you, Eli — they also betrayed my trust too."
Eli silently agreed. "Indeed they did. But you used your brains and fought them verbally. Good thinking, Callie." He gave me a thumbs up, to which I smiled in thanks.
Demetri nodded. "Ah, beautiful and smart. What a great combination."
"Indeed, Demetri, indeed," put in Eli. However, his smile then faded a little and he became quiet as though he'd realized something that wasn't so good — which was true in this case.
"Are you all right, Eli?" Demetri asked in a concerned tone, speaking for both himself and me when we noticed how quiet Eli had suddenly become.
"Well, no," Eli admitted before turning to me. Reaching for my hands, he gently pulled me into a sitting position between himself and Demetri before gently placing a hand on my shoulder. "You see, I'm worried for you, Callie."
I knew precisely what he meant. "You do realize, of course, that I'll have to warily watch my back because of the Cobras possibly targeting me for leaving Cobra Kai?"
I felt Demetri's hand on my free shoulder as he bent to my ear. "There will always be room for more Miyagi-Fang students, notre petite soeur."
I smiled as the French phrase for "our little sister" fell from his lips; hearing it sure made me feel good right down to my bones — and for good reason, too.
