"Anyway, that's the plan. Leave on the 28th and stay till early august. That way we can celebrate the majority of our group's birthdays there. And during this whole outing we have had right now." He checked his phone for the first time since you started your walk to the park. "Sero and Kami confirmed they could go too, so that's everybody."
"Okay, I can't believe all of this is happening. It sounds so fun and from how you described it, the house is big. Which means everyone will be fairly spread out, easier to get some real alone time. And for a month no less."
"Yeah, and because I'm in charge, we get the master bedroom. Which has a good sized balcony looking over the water. I guess it pays to have a doctor who does international work as a dad sometimes."
"You're telling me, we're going to southern fucking California with all of our friends for almost free in the scheme of things." You kinda shouted that at him by accident, unable to hide your excitement.
"I know, it's kind of surreal. I can't wait to show you around there, I think you're gonna like it. It's not in a super crowded area like Los Angeles, so it will be more lowkey. A perfect vacation destination."
"You can say that again. Actually I have another question though."
"Lay it on me."
"How many times have you been there? And like, when did you visit last?"
"I wasn't able to go last summer because I was gearing up for college obviously, but I did the summer before. And I have been going almost every summer before that. It's kind of similar to Okinawa but also not at all. You'll see, I have a feeling your gonna fall in love with it more than me."
"I wouldn't be surprised." With that your conversation about your trip came to an end and you started to head back home.

When you got back to the house the awkward air from your random conversation with Mayuko had worn off. Which reminded you kind of why it happened in the first place. Your anniversary.
So after dinner when Hitoshi and you opted to spend the rest of the night in his room, you brought it up again.
"Hey so I was just thinking about the whole anniversary thing. Do you actually feel the need to celebrate it, or let me rephrase that. Do we have to celebrate on the actual day. Because I had an idea."
"Well we know that all of your ideas are just works of genius, so I'm all ears." There was a little bit of sarcasm in his voice but you just rolled your eyes and continued.
"Yeah whatever, my idea was that we wait to celebrate until we get to America. Then we can plan a nice dinner night there and we'll have the ability to get a little tipsy back at the house. And have our own bedroom, bathroom, and balcony overlooking the beach."
"I take back my sarcasm, you're a genius." He kissed you, just a quick peck on your lips.
"I have my moments." A smile came to your face and the two of you went back to getting ready for bed.
Until Hitoshi seemed to have an epiphany. While both of you were about to get in bed he froze for a second. His face looking like he was about to say, "you've got to be fucking kidding me."
"Fuck, I just realized something that demotes our genius."
"Oh gods what?"
"We unpacked all of our stuff into my room just to have to pack half of it back up in suitcases again." You let out a sigh that turned into a slight laugh. Face palming in the process.
"Guess that just means we'll have to endure that pain again. Lovely." He joined in laughing at both of yourselves.
"Yep, looks like it. But that's tomorrow's problem."
"Agreed."
Hey hey. Hope people are enjoying this story so far. They will be in California soon enough but I liked the idea of really gearing up for it because it's not like they can just go 'poof' and they are in a different country on another continent.
